One of the reasons the legal system exists is retribution. That purpose has fallen out of favor in many quarters, but it's a legitimate purpose of criminal punishment. The reason for that is that if criminals don't suffer for their actions it results in vigilante justice by the victims and their families. Then the criminal and his family takes revenge, and it's a never ending cycle. Having the state do it short circuits that process and keeps it proportional. But if that doesn't happen people will take shit into their own hands.
The family has a lawsuit against the nursing home, so we'll see maybe in another 2 years. Whoever responsible, whether a govt official or nursing home admin or both, should be forced to pay up and get demoted or fired. But sadly, its more likely this dindu will be put on meds, let out, and commit another crime before that. And whoever cleared him will never be found out because muh doctor privacy. And the taxpayer will cover the familys losses, while no govt official faces responsibility.
Another problem seems that parts of the state do a half ass job of preventing crime and has some incentive to create criminals to justify their budget/existence (FBI). Not holding my breath to see retribution done against the ignorant governor, state health officials, cuomo, police and mental health "experts" who implement bad policies and allow retards to menace society. There is a fine line and at least its better than stepping way over the line like China. Some more transparency would be nice though.
