Apples and oranges, mexico is pur backyard and directly affects our security. Syria, iraq, kosovo, vietnam, taiwan, (potentially) ukraine do not.
Yeah Mexico is just relations between neighbors. Basically "you deal with the problem or I will, and if I do you aren't going to like how I do it".

I would argue Taiwan is actually a big deal considering their semiconductor capacity.

not disagreeing with your point but if chips are a strategic consideration wouldn't it be a lot cheaper and better long-term to throw money into a manhattan project for domestic production than even the smallest military action defending taiwan
and the chip production would stop anyway since any major economic production would be stalled during a conflict
Taiwan has always been a part of China. I say that not out of support for the PRC but because it's not such a great idea to have them making all of our chips.

I support Israel as a state because I like that they are friendly to us, but believe we should cut them off from any and all government handouts.
