I've given up on predicting things. I thought they'd keep WuFlu going just long enough to give Biden the W on it. But it turns out that despite being known as a cynical and pessimistic person, my predictions have been on the optimistic side compared to what actually happens.

Two things, it's a real virus and they've lost the reins on that one. Can't control the virus and can't control the mob. They just claim to speak for the mob and then run cover when the mob turns mostly peaceful.

You can't control the virus but you can control how you report on it. For a time they were trying to manipulate the statistics to make things seem better, both by changing the PCR cycles for infections for vaccinated individuals and by changing fatality reporting for the vaccinated.

Had they continued manipulating the figures in such a way as to make it seem like the pandemic was waning, they could have gotten people to calm down about it. Because ultimately the present hysteria is much more about our reaction to the virus than the virus itself.

The ones in power can plant the rumor that this year's crops were ruined because of witches, or the plagues started because of their witch cats, but once the witch hunting begins, you stand back lest you get burned yourself. It's a free-burning witch hunt at this point.

Big players don't always have the same end results in mind. I know it's very comforting for conspiracy theorists to hug the security blanket that is the thought that the world is really actually at peace, and every powerful person works hand in hand with every other powerful person in one big loving cabal, but no. Much like a poor ill-networked person can hate or compete with another poor ill-networked person, so can the rich well-networked one. You're far too optimistic about human nature, assuming a conflict-free utopia exists anywhere, even in the upper eschelons of power.

Someone sparked the witch hunters into motion. A different someone fanned the flames. A different someone maintained and grew the immense conflagration. And none of the three are deciding who gets thrown into it.

Exactly. There's real precedence for this, as ISIS was rising to prominence they were as good as screaming to the world that they were jihadists while the world press was attempting to say 'oh its global warming' 'oh its a secular reaction to dictatorship' 'they dont really mean it, its just a show to convince their rabble'

If it were a year ago? Sure.

This is the 20th anniversary and there's a festering hostage crisis involving, at best, hundreds, at worst, thousands. I don't know what necessarily will happen but 'status quo ante' is not it.

The news cycle is very likely to get seized by something else, before which the administration will try to take even more victory laps about how 'successful' the withdrawal was. They are obsessed with the narrative that withdrawing for withdrawal's sake for the 20th anniversary is required to generate good press for Joe. They are a bunch of arrogant asshats, and that invites people to do dramatic things to get their attention. ISIS played this game with the Iraqi Christian mass executions and the Obama administration. That administration was far more competent at managing the narrative and including at least a little sugar to go with what they're asking for.

Biden's team seems to think 'Lecture the little people and scream at them if they balk' is a productive messaging approach. There is no sugar. No dress up, just thuggish arrogance. I would expect the Taliban and their buddies to revel in this and the absurd amount of leverage Biden just dumped in their laps. Democrats could care less about the 20th anniversary of 9/11 beyond the possibility of a few good headlines for 'ending the war', but the Taliban, Al Qaeda, et. al. really care about that date. The war hasn't ended for them and they probably want to remind us at large about that fact.

I think the no sugar thing is what they thought Trump was like.

WWIII was the Cold War, fought by proxy and propaganda. WWIV began 20 years ago and hasn't ended yet, but may yet evolve.

Oddly enough, Donald Rumsfeld said something similar when in power.

This war kills less, but effects everyone more.

Mm.

He says near the end about how he believes that those who want Western-style reform have been silenced and intimidated. Perhaps, but I don't think he considered that they're just a tiny minority, and not actually some "silent majority". It's similar to Aztec apologia - Quetzlcoatl is the god you might be most familiar with, because he was the one most popular with white scholars, because his priests were the only ones questioning or opposing human sacrifice. BUT they were actually a hated minority amongst their own people.

Hell, one of the best First Doctor (Who) stories is The Aztecs, and it actually illustrates this sort of thinking (with the lady teacher being the apologist).

Well, it's the same here. We're being asked to go to war for the sake of a few oddballs within an otherwise savage culture.

Weird how Afghanistan didn't attack us on 9/11 and then we proceeded to attack and destabilize all the nations outlined in the Clean Break Memo authored by Ricard Perle for Benjamin Netanyahu from Afghanistan to Iraq to Libya, Syria, and Somalia.

Interesting predictions.

Google won't have a "doodle" for it

This one I can't see happening. Though if you are right about this, it's as whopper of a correct prediction.

The Biden admin won't really acknowledge it

Considering what they have done, they don't really have a choice.

I found bing is better for local business than goolag. And in general I go startpage, yandex, ddg, bing, then only goolag reluctantly if none of those find what im looking for.

Google unfortunately still has the best image search in my experience. I can find whatever meme or greentext I'm looking for very quickly, whereas DDG and Bing have been pretty abysmal with my search terms

I can't give a comparative rating, but Google image search is terrible when your search terms overlap with something in the news or anything related to Trump. It has the same bias towards current events and "reliable sources" that their regular search does. I find myself often using the minus operator, until it only gives me a page or two of results.

Honestly it's just better these days. Google censors so much that their search results are pretty much useless at this point.

I sometimes accidentally type search words in the the address bar of explorer and end up with Bing results and can't figure out where I am for a couple of seconds. Can't imagine using it all the time, just ever so slightly off, like being in a google simulation.
