I've recently come around to this view as well. I identified as a moderate (as in actually moderate, not just non-AOC wing) Democrat for a long time. I turned against them when it became clear that a) the "moderates" are just as happy to raise my taxes and take my guns as Alexandria Donkeyface, and b) they're not the naked emperor, but they are telling me not to believe my lying eyes when I point out that the emperor has no clothes.
Even after Gamergate I was in that "moderate" kind of position for a long time. I thought that maybe if the other side can't be convinced then at least the onlookers mostly could be. Instead, they will just blindly follow whoever is in power.
Yes, for a long time, the Democratic platform aligned with what they wanted. Now, it doesn't, but they've got too comfortable with things. They just vote Democrat just assuming they agree on things.

If it is to be supplanted, I simply ask for a superior alternative. Hailing from a very violent part of the world which romanticizes Marxism, and has been flirting with the worst elements of socialism for the past two decades, with a laundry list of historical failures in hand - failures that led to mass loss of life and further exploitation, I cannot in good conscience endorse or even tolerate the proposal of Marxism as a replacement. It is inflammatory, revolutionary, and fails in implementation.

Overlooking economic and socio-political viability, how exactly is it exempt from the same subversion? From your responses, you seemingly limit your definition of Marxism largely to Marx's work, regarding neo/cultural Marxism as more radical liberalism. If this is the case, given the means by which "Marxism" is being proliferated and the views commonly held by self-identified Marxists, wouldn't the revolution actually be staged by a majority liberal component?

Part of the issue is that left-wing rhetoric doesn't have much in the way of counters to communist ideology. If you're on the left, you're implicitly accepting that communism is the way to go, somehow and some time. Communists end up just having to debate that now is the time for a bunch of premises that the rhetoric is already set up for - it's why lefties in general fold like house of cards in the face of communist proselytism.

Left-wing ideals completely oppose communism. We cherish the freedom of the individual, of experiencing new things, of just living and letting live. Liberalism is a willingness to be open to debate, not automatic acceptance. Preaches tolerance, not embracing an idea simply because it is different.
Communism is not about any of these things. It is the complete destruction of the system and the removal of all freedoms under the will of the collective authoritarianism. No changes, nothing new, only enforcement. There is no tolerance of anything under communism, only obedience. Obedience is a conservative principle.

The reality is liberal and left-wing are much abused terms. A sizeable portion of the Democrat constituency would be better described as progressives, or even radical progressives based on the policy they vote for. You can't unironically support equality of outcome, critical race theory and substantial government overreach while calling yourself a liberal.
Unfortunately, liberalism seems to have been yet another slippery slope. Whether inherently flawed or just vulnerable to subversion, it is in part how we arrived at this juncture.
