Every time I hear the term "model minority" it's always coming from leftists reeeing that we Asians break their idea that minorities can never do well. Conservatives only point out that it's our culture of two parents and discipline that helps us do well.
You should ask them if jews are a "model minority" or if they are white. ;^)
That is great, because there are some choice responses you can make either way they answer yes/no
What I was thinking: if jews are white then white people have experienced systemic racism and extermination, AKA; lolercaust
If jews are not white, then white people are not disproportionately in positions of power.
Yeah, the Ghanians, Guyanese, South Africans.... Basically any black group that arrived in the 20th century and beyond behaves nothing like the slave descendents who arrived in the centuries beforehand.
If I was a successful black immigrant from one of those groups... I would be TERRIFIED of my child growing up and identifying with the slave-descendents and absorbing their culture.
It happens in Britain, of all places, you fucking know it is happening in the US.
It's the opposite of the slave degenerate effect. It being fairly hard to immigrate here from Africa means that you get the most ambitious Africans. Whereas the slaves were bred to be compliant, among other things.
Seriously. I have never heard the term 'model minority' from anyone but a leftist, and I have never heard it followed by anything but a complaint about how its a flawed concept and blah blah blah.
It was probably said by conservatives once upon a time, but I'd be surprised if it was at any point in the last 30 years.
Seems like something that was or would be used by racists today. Or used by people to point out racist thinking.
You're American loyalists. That's why they hate you.
Well, they're right about Asian Americans being heavily discriminated against. Wonder when they'll get around to fixing that in academia and corporate diversity quota initiatives...
Oh, right, this is about "hate crimes", aka yet another tool to push authoritarian agenda under the guise of 'justice'.
They linked to a polling PDF and 1st paragraph of 'Methodology':
I jumped around and didn't really read it but they're talking about residents, not necessarily citizens / green card holders AFAIK. Article doesn't cover the influx of 'residents' per H1B visas either... Would be racist I guess.
Interesting.
LMAO
Bad methodology, AND a low sample size? Must be a liberal debunking study!
So if it's a myth, why do you support discriminating against Asians?
"Asians aren't the Model Minority, they are actually highly discriminated against."
"BY. YOU."
Lol, they're using the British definition of Asian, including Indians and Pakistanis etc. News flash, in America, when people say "Asian", they mean almost exclusively East Asian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese. So yeah, if you start mixing in a bunch of other groups, including Pacific Islanders, you're going to end up with different results from the people only thinking about East Asians.
U.S. demographic data has been counting Indians, Pakistanis and even Pacific Islanders as Asians in the U.S. for atleast three decades.
The U.S. has gotten into the mindset of dividing everyone into neat little boxes of White, Black, Asian, Hispanic or mixed.
To see how people classify Asians, look at cities like Cupertino, CA that have a high amount of Asian Americans. In these cities, Indians, Middle Easterners and Pacific Islanders all are classified as Asian.
We used to distinguish with the word "oriental", and Asian meant East Indian, but somehow "oriental" is racist. Because it recognizes that there exists more than once race in Asia.
Unless its about food somehow. Its perfectly fine for even corporate grocery stores to have oriental sections for all the Asians, but we can't skip the middle man and refer to them by the fact they come from the Orient.
But somehow fucking stealing a university position from an Asian kid who earned it and giving it to a black kid that didn’t is OK!
The US demographics and stats also counts Latinos as White, yet if you asked 90% of the population they would be a separate box. Same with Asians and Arabs and Indians.
They still put them in the same group. I know a few pakis who were bitching about not being able to go to med school because too many Chinese/Japanese were enrolled.
Nobody believes this. Non-racists know the difference between Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Indian, Korean etc. Actual racists distinguish gooks from chinks, japs/nips, dotheads, etc and somehow they can even tell the difference between the Hmong and Kinh.
Not actually a myth, if you take it the way a normal person would, as referring to group averages. Median household income is about $68K for 2019 (numbers aren't in for 2020); most Asian-American groups they show, and all the large ones, are comfortably above that.
Less than what? This myth don't grammar.
Yeah, but enough about black people.
Ooh, there's that term 'fair'. In a majoritarian system, you can't expect proportional representation for minorities. This myth is meaningless.
"Model minority" is a leftist invention. Of course it's a myth, it's leftist propaganda.
It's like "Latinx" user deboonks "Latinx".
So... race is a choice that flattens diverse experiences... gender is a choice that flattens diverse experiences...
But sexual attraction is locked in at birth and can never be changed.
CBC and NPR must subscribe to the same "propaganda starter pack" service
Am I not wrong in seeing this as a self-own? Nearly every myth they give is provably true GIVEN THEIR OWN DATA. It’s a myth that AA households get more money, but every ethnic subset of Asian is above medium income except 3 (and one of them is Pacific Islander, which is arguably Oceania and not Asia) with some of the larger groups nearly doubling the median. It’s a myth that Asians immigrate correctly, but here’s a graph that shows 50% of illegal immigrants are Mexican and even the larger ethnic groups don’t even make up 5%
Looked through it. Response point for point.
Yes, Asia's a big place with lots of people in it. Thanks for pointing that out.
You didn't place the average American on that chart, so it's useless. Show us how they compare to the benchmark, then we'll talk.
Your table doesn't support your conclusion. What it shows is "There are 7 Hispanic illegal immigrants for every Asian illegal immigrant".
You have not included information about the racism or discrimination any other group faces, so you've failed to show Asians face less.
Fine, but how many of them are running? When they run, how often do they win?
I hate this term. It’s just liberals mad because minorities don’t fall for the “I’m a victim nonsense”. Some African immigrants also do very well in America. Who would’ve that that valuing education and a loving/involved mother and father could make such a difference
