I've taken the approach of I don't care. Why do I need to pick a side? I'm not a Israeli, a Jew, a Palestinian, or a Muslim. I have my grievances with all of those groups. Gun to my head? I pick the Jews over the Muslims, because at the very least the Jews aren't commissioned by their god to take over the world by force. Does that mean I love Israel? Not really, but the scenario is being forced to choose.
You can't really strip the religion from this argument. I mean the whole thing is two competing religions lay claim to Jerusalem as theirs from their god and not for the use of the opposing heathens. They are going to fight over it until the end of time. I'd prefer just stay out of it and let them do whatever. Quit sending them money and let the dust settle where it may. If we want to spend money in the middle east shore up the line somewhere else. There's no strategic use for Jerusalem.
So instead I've got two death cults. Even more reason to just let them stay distracted fighting over cities on the other side of the world. Maybe that's why a lot of things seem to point to essentially America funding both sides. Keep them busy.
