Not surprised. They are just tools to be used by the party and cast aside when their usefulness has run out. Hell, if anything they could have let them know of the situation ahead of time so they could have brought their own resources with them. But you know they can't be bothered with that.

I had an aunt in local politics. She was a councillor for the township and did a lot for the community. People regularly showed up at her door at all hours asking for money, petitioning for one thing or another, and she gave a lot of herself to her community. She also spearheaded a few projects that ultimately improved the lives of children in our community, such as new recreation spaces and club programs. She never broadcasted any of this. She just did it because it was the right thing to do for her community.
Then election season came one year, and someone who was considered a dear friend (to put it in perspective, my aunt paid off this woman's debts and would regularly give her groceries and the like) stabbed her in the back and spread lies about my aunt. Telling anyone who would listen how she was only out for herself and that she had done nothing with her three terms serving on the council. My aunt didn't get a fourth term.
I'm sure there are hundreds, if not thousands of stories like my aunt's. As distasteful as we might find it, if you want to do good and continue to do good in politics, then you need to broadcast the good you do.
Or in short: Pride is not a sin, it is a virtue. Be prideful in your accomplishments. Show the world your value, and let it be known that you have wrought great works.

I know at least Texas and New Hampshire had troops there, since they both have recalled them over this.
