Need a palette cleanser? Play Vanquish. It's an action game and it's remarkably short. Complete opposite if what you've been playing for the last 150 hours or so.

Oh shit! Someone who played Vanquish!

That's a game that's always been kinda undervalued.

Probably because platinum makes incredible gameplay but forget to add enough game to their titles. Most people aren't willing to spend 79.99CAD on a game that's three hours long.

Fair enough, but that bitch dropped to $20 about as fast as a Madden title.

The gameplay is pretty good but what killed it for me was the upgrade mechanic.

"Hey, you like this weapon? Well, if you want to upgrade it you're not allowed to use it but still have to waste a weapon slot on it! Go play with that weapon you don't like!"

Whoever thought that was a good idea should get out of game development.

Well, I'd have to say you'd want to remove turn-based and menu-heavy stuff, so RPGs should be thrown out, despite how good some of them might be. LoZ:BotW might get a bit boring. Vanquish I can definitely recommend, though it might not last you very long.

I know you've already got your list set up, but I'm with you on your criticisms of modern turn based RPGs.

I've had to get my fix from small RPG Maker productions. I'd recommend Doom and Destiny (which is very inexpensive and a ton of content) and, if you want decisions that matter to the nth degree, check out Lisa.

I would recommend you first play Yakuza 0.

Yakuza 0 is the best game on your list in my opinion.

Tales of Berseria is pretty fun and has a good story.

Tales of Vesperia is good too but I didn't finish that yet so I cannot completely rate the game yet.

Vanquish is alright, nothing mind blowing.

Uncharted games are ok. I completed Uncharted 2 and 3.

Red Dead Redemption 1 is good but is a slow burn, it is probably not what you are looking for atm.

The rest of the games on your list, I have not played myself.

I've gotta second Yakuza 0. It's the only game I've played recently where the devs seem to have said "What if we made the game... fun?" at every single meeting.

The people who wanted to play classic Sega arcade games? They get to have fun.
The people who wanted to play a beat-em-up? They get to have fun.
The people who wanted to laugh at the ridiculous? They get to have fun.
The people who wanted a classic good-vs-evil story? They get to have fun, too.

Okami is a good game and I will get around to it at some point his year, want to cross the HD edition off my list.

Berseria has good characters and a pretty good story. Abysmal combat though, it looks flash but you have to equip moves in slots and then string them together. It's alot more fussy than it needs to be and if I wasn't so invested in Velvet and her story I'd have stopped play way sooner.

Yakuza is generally a good series, 0 is best and you can skip Kiwami and miss nothing and go straight to 2.

You should try some management games, shooters or even an RTS if you can find it if you want something a bit more involved.

Kiwami is literally a remake of Yakuza 1.

Why would you skip it?

Yakuza Kiwami may not be as great as 0 or 2 but it is still a good game with a good story.

It is worth playing through the entire series starting with 0 then Kiwami then Kiwami 2.

I am still waiting for the pc ports of Yakuza 3-6.

Glad that there is only a short wait since 3-5 come out on January 28th and 6 comes out on March 25th of 2021.

It's more comparing Kiwami to 0.

Coliseum fights are annoying, especially the floor disappearing one.

Majima Everywhere is entertaining at first until he has 7 health bars then it's a slog.

Little to no decent Karaoke songs, Got rid of JUDGEMENT for example but added in Restart the Night, all songs can likewise be found in 2.

Mesubugs and Pocket Racer are the big side activities, no managing real estate empire and the hostess club has 2 girls.

fighting system is still basically the same.

No disco dancing

Compare to Kiwami 2

New engine, new fighting system, Coliseum fights finally decent in that there's no BS auto elimination.

RTS Majima construction side activity with famous Japanese wrestlers as the baddies.

Can manage Sunshine again with Yuki, Majima gets 3 chapters that resolves stuff on his end.

Still no more disco, but a few more/new Karaoke tracks to make up for it.

If you go from 0 to Kiwami, you will notice how much they gutted in terms of side activites and what Kiryu can do, if you go from Kiwami to 2, you also notice how much they added back in with the new engine.

Kiwami is a remake of Yakuza 1, the first game in the whole series. Yakuza 0 came out after Yakuza 5.

You can't expect the same level of content.

I do agree that Kiwami has much less content and also agree with your stated negative points about Kiwami but I think despite that it is still worth playing for the story.

I've played a decent amount of those and I also totally understand the Persona 5 thing. I usually binge it for a stint then not touch it for a while because it's just so damn talky.

Out of what you have that I've played:

  • God of War, Spiderman, Uncharted - I put these all together as they are third person action/adventure. Light on cutscenes mostly but there is a story.
  • Breath of the Wild - very light on story or action in my 30ish hours so far, this is an exploration game. Play this is you want to chill but not read a lot.
  • Okami - It's pretty but I get bored with this. I'd mark it off as too RPG.
  • Red Dead 1/2 - It's been so long since I played 1, 2 starts really, really, REALLY slow.
  • Vanquish - if I were you and wanted to play what I already had, I'd go here. Totally different from the entire list. I played it during a similar rut myself. Extremely intense, very little RPG elements.
  • Yakuza - I love these games but they will talk your head off at times, save for another time.

If you want to buy something, then I'd suggest Bayonetta, God of War 3 Remaster (it's nothing like the latest one), Doom 2016, Hitman (1 or 2).

Bayonetta has different difficulties. If I remember right I played it on the middle setting and had a challenge. I'm still only about average at hack and slash games though so take that into consideration. It's a lot more Devil May Cry than Batman game. I liked it enough I'm going to play through it again, and that's really rare with me.

Hades. All dialogue is 100% skippable but you don't want to because the story is decent.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is great. Though you should play the first game before. The first game is better in every way.

I own a fair share of your listed games, and most of those are partially played at best. None completed.

I have base Persona 5 and quit at some point due to getting sick of it. I'm perfectly happy with turn based based combat, but that game's mechanics in terms of time and battle just wore down on me.

But the burnout didn't prevent me from enjoying other RPGs, so I wouldn't rule out the genre entirely, especially if you're like me and it's your favorite:

  • Yakzua 0 unless you don't want to go through mini-games
  • Berseria for pace, though environments can be a little empty

If you're ever in the mood for a platformer, definitely recommend Rayman.
