It's really about the rise of the Communists in Russia, but it also describes the mindset of the average liberal even today. It was always an incredibly conformist movement, where any deviation from the dogma is punished by social ostracization. These people crave status first and foremost, and speaking against the established truths is social suicide. Some people find it in themselves to break from the norm, even just a little bit, and they get ejected from their social bubble and thrown into a pit with the other deplorables. One of these pits is this place, and it's actually much better than being around stuck up histrionic faggots.

In educated Russian society . . . by no means every view may be expressed. A whole school of thought . . . is morally forbidden, not merely in lectures but in private conversation. And the more “liberated” the company, the more heavily this tacit prohibition weighs on it.
