You make the mistake of applying the principle of comradery and sentiment towards allies when dealing with leftists.

There's only the cause and everyone and everything is either a tool to reach it or an obstacle to get rid off. Any mercy towards obstacles only occurs when it takes more effort to get rid of it than it is worth it. At which point you're just put on a "deal with later" list.
