Miller has been around in Hollywood since he was a teenager, and has reportedly always been extremely popular with certain producers. Obviously it would be absurd to suggest that he's received any of his roles for any reason other than talent, or that his current mental and emotional instability might be the result of something that happened to him when he was a kid, since nothing like that ever happens in Hollywood.
This might also explain why he's still being protected in the Industry: some pretty powerful people in Hollywood could possibly have reason afraid of what he might say if his protection is withdrawn.
