This is more likely because of the fuck ups in the Liberal party, like the "Fuck you" guy and the Hockey player thing. They just have no way left of maintaining their petty unscientific restrictions at this point.
What is this "law" you are talking about? There is no law that applies to the ruling class. They are above the law, like they are above morality, decency and everything else.
The UK and the US have virtually no Covid restrictions, and their heads of government haven't gotten Covid this year. Justin "Follow the Science" Trudeau has gotten it twice. Just sayin'.
I love that first point, perfect reason why so many branch covidians absolutely seethe over the protest to this day. The protest got everyone who'd been cowed into going along with this nonsense to finally speak up the talk around covid leapt from absolutely ludicrous proposals being given serious consideration to seeing the dwindling of these measures.
Here's hoping it lasts, though god knows they're trying to steer us onto something else to try all over again. I think I still have 'murder hornets' in the .win pool.

Rate of boosters is too low, they want to update the legal requirements for fully vaxxed but afraid to ban more than half the country from travel
