Some of it was was straight up war propaganda. Popeye is a good example. I'm not sure if and Action or Marvel comics were.

There's so much straight of uppity leftist racism in trek it's insane... Definitely insane to act like it isn't.

Aside from that, even if I agree with anti-racist messaging, there's a difference. The white-black vs black-white episode of trek is good. Dr Seuss 's star bellied sneetches are good. The heavy-handed unsubtlety of Sisko's pro-black episode it's terrible. I only made it through the first episode of Lovecraft country. Sci-fi can do it right. Hell, the point of sci-fi is that you can make allegory to show principles without beating the audience over the head with black=good, white=bad.

Ebonics was the original term. It obviously took on a bad connotation, so a new term had to be invented. Acknowledge that AAVE exists is just as ok as acknowledging other regional English dialects. But there was a genuine attempt to "teach" it to elementary children. Which is just as dumb as teaching my regional dialect as "proper".

Here's a quick Google search result, but I restricted the search to 1995-1999, which is super fun to do for any topic from the birth of the www onward. https://www.pbs.org/speak/seatosea/americanvarieties/AAVE/hooked/

The whole original point of calling it "ebonics" is that people started trying to teach it to school children in the 90s.

I live in a southern state. We have a dialect. If our dialect was taught in schools as proper or valid, that would be retarded. And Mark Twain wrote stories using that dialect - in character speech, not the narrative. No one is teaching sentences like "y'all ain't gonna learn me how to talk proper" as proper grammar. Get that shit out of here.

I liked it. Wasn't perfect. It was fun. So weird.

I don't have to be a film expert to figure out that it was very poorly directed. Every action scene is like "something kinda cool is happening that you can't see very well"

The insane part? Tumblr succeeded. That why we are here

The black guy in this case really was the best candidate. From his name, I assumed he was northern European. Either way, he did actually do the best. Of course, I'll never know how many candidates they didn't send us.

And that's after plowing through the other 30+ bad candidates.

I'm not sure what this recruiter was actually weeding out.

Exactly. No one said it out loud, but this is why she made it to round 3 before we finally put it to bed. Someone really wanted the "different" "girl" and no one wanted to admit she'd be a liability even though we were all thinking it.

I hosted a gauntlet of interviews recently. I have no interest in discriminating on the bases of race, gender, or national origin. We took candidates from a recruiter. 90% of the candidates were African or Indian. We pre-informed candidates that they would be tested on technical requirements, but many of them showed up and straight up refused the technical requirements. I couldn't understand most of the interviewees. We had one female candidate who dropped and f-bomb and claimed a couple forms of mental illness in the interview. It got to the point where I would just dread interviews depending on the name.

We ended up hiring 2 mediocre white guys and one black guy who was the star candidate.

I don't know that we had a policy to prefer affirmative action candidates, but I'm 90% sure that our recruiter did, because that's all they would send us.

"vest" = clothes. Transvestite just refers to clothes. It means cross dresser.

Enlightened Centrism is the absolute worst ideology of all. Even the Bible condemned it 2000 years ago.

Seriously. Their best response would be to pretend that it means nothing and has nothing to do with the feminist movement at all. But they're doubling down.

More expensive too. Mcds is shooting for the mid-tiee fast food market, not the "cheapest" like they used to. Interestingly BK has flipped to being cheaper. Checkers/Rallys is your bottom tier.

Exactly, dude's entire manifesto could be a rephrasing of Thomas Sowell, but that wouldn't make Sowell wrong. He'd still just be a wacko.

We point this stuff out to prove, yeah, he doesn't even claim to believe what we believe. But the truth is that it wouldn't (and shouldn't) matter a whole lot (to us) if he did.
