There was a post here a few days ago about honestly recalculating minimum wage. The article it linked to did a good job of distinguishing minimum cost from participation cost. Do you need $100/mo internet to live? No. But if that's the cheapest option in your region and you have anything that needs to happen online, banking, work, school, then yes, actually, it's a necessity to participate in society.
