Grants are the reason game developers today prioritize political statements over quality products. And with so much alternative revenue, the success of the game is less relevant. So boycotts are not the solution. I think we should all start making our own games today. (media.scored.co)

Think about it. Why would they put "body type A" and make the characters androgynous? Surely they know that will lead to controversy and therefore fewer sales. So obviously there is another reason to make it worth the loss of sales.

Say you're making a movie and some big nosed dude offers to pay you $1M to make your main character black and gay which doesn't make sense because its a kids movie about penguins. Well, thats a lot of money so you'd do it.

Anyways, for good games in the modern era we must turn to independent developers. But with gamedev being so easy now, best do it yourself! Check out:

Game Maker: easy beginner program for 2D games

RPG maker: very straightforward if you want to make a 2D rpg. Too many limitations for my liking. It's free on steam, or of was a while back.

Godot: my favorite. It's open source and has incredibly useful documentation. Very power engine.

Unreal Engine: the original slop creator, but it'll be your own personal slop. This engine holds your hand the whole way. I hate it.

Unity: the same as unreal but costs more money

No engine: just code it yourself. Or tell a chatbot LLM to code it, try out various languages. This is known as "vibe coding" and it's slop.

Even if you're not interested in making games, I still suggest trying out these game engines because most of them will have demos and templates and even full games that you can play. The asset tab in Godot is extensive, its incredible bow many addons have been made for it.

In conclusion, the solution to modern woke games dominating the industry is to have an army of passionate hobbyists creating games. The big, legacy game studios will just have to be ignored until they fadeinto obscurity.

Godot

They went woke but there are forks, such as Redot.

It's open source, so it doesn't matter that some twitter rep made gay tweets a few years ago. You can make "Fag Slayer 5000" in Godot if you wanted to.

I don't know much about Redot, afaik it is exactly the same as Godot 3.x.

If I get successful making a game, I'll donate some of that money to Godot, regardless of their political stances. I feel they deserve it and the donation would go towards improving the engine.

I looked into Redot. It's just a fork of an old version honestly. I mean it works, but I'd probably hold off on sprinting towards Redot unless you're willing to recode it later OR it becomes necessary to fork Godot due to actual bad product. If they change license to make it against policy to make your Fag Slayer game , they can only apply that to the current version, so you fork the latest one. Or if they actually make the engine bad. Otherwise I don't see the point.

There was a point when Redot updated and it was just the new Godot update with the logo changed. Like, no one did anything. The Redot "update" wasnt an update of the last version of Redot, but just another fork of a newer Godot version.

If the Godot developers decide to make policies against what games can be made in the engine, they'd have to make it closed source and then people could just continue using the latest cc0 version. And there are other good reasons why someone would want to stick with an older version of the engine anyways (updates lead to bugs, more features = less performance, bigger programs need more power).

Indie 2d games are the most low effort slop of all the things you listed.

Decent looking pixel art games that come out these days required an actual artist, because AI doesn't do well with pixel art yet.

But I'd say the most low effort slop of all are games made from Unreal Engine templates. There are tons and because Unreal does everything for you the games all look and feel the same. It's that awful default shader you see on every game since Ark Survival. It's those games that perform like garbage because the dev didn't know how to optimize; the dev didn't know anything and probably just bought some assets from the Fab store. Most low effort slop there is.

Vampire survivors comes to mind....

I grew up in the 90s when 2D games were peaking and 3D graphics were just primitive shapes. Still, didn't care for the 2D games as much. I thoought Pokemon was garbage, even though I loved it, I thought of it as very basic and mindless (just mash A until the battle is over) but forgave them because they put so much into a gameboy cartridge and the simplicity went along with the new "mobile"/"casual" genre that Pokemon was pioneering.

When I got into making games in 2002, I used Game Maker and over time did a lot of pseudo 3D effects. I made my own Pokemon game that used a technique called "Oblique Projection" which looks like a 3D orthogonal camera but is actually just isometric 2D with split faces so that the viewpoint can be rotated. The math to do this is actually a lot easier than it sounds, especially if you remember learning trigonometry in high school.

I was a teenager when I moved on to 3D gamedev. I encourage anyone stuck in 2D to give it a try, its really just the same with an extra coordinate to consider. Making games in 3D is not that much more difficult, it's even easier in some cases.

The 2D format has it's benefits though, mainly in performance. Compare Age of Empires 2 and Red Alert to AoE4 or C&C4, the main difference is NOT that the visuals are "Realistic" and 3D and the camera can change angles, no the main noticeable difference is that those new games SUCK. They suck because you only see a few dozen units at once, the battles stopped being epic, as the hardware limitations of running in 3D are turned into limitations of game mechanics. If you want to play an RTS game with hundreds of units moving around, 2D is king. Multimeshing in 3D is possible but tricky if you want to include animations or AI, and it may be more performant to have each character unit be it's own draw call depending on how complicated the game is (just look at World War Z for example).

So yeah bullet storm and RTS genres may actually be better on 2D currently. Certain other games may be subjectively better in 2D from an artistic standpoint. Platformers is where we see a split: a lot of gamers hate 3D platformers while many others hate sidescrollers. Many people to this day consider Mario 3 to be the best Mario game, much better than Mario 64, Sunshine or Galaxy. But I disagree with those people and think 3D platformers are very fun.

the pay off is so cheap but the damage is insane

ELEX 2 also got like a 150,000€ from the (((EU))) which is why it was full of feminism, faggotry, niggers (there were zero niggers in the previous installation) and all sorts of woman/faggot design

game bombed on launch and costed the studio its future, now i have to wonder are game-devs really wishing to throw their studio to the bin for a measily 150,000€/170,000$? its sounds insane and jewish (lowballing) but its been the go-to method for woke faggotry for the past decade

It's not the devs doing it, or even the studio. It's the CEO, on the advice of the "consulting" company. He pays them, pockets the rest, and moves on to his next victim.

Sounds like survival of the fittest. Any company that chooses to hire these people deserves to fail. We can stay angry for much longer than they can stay solvent. When all we have to do to win is nothing, our victory is inevitable.

Its added to the cash pile of the company, then used to show investors/hire people (for small studios, it's never guaranteed you get paid btw, or that the contributions to your 401(k) are actually maded, etc etc. I've seen studios even lie about insurancec).

Well it depends, but 99% of the time - no they won't.

The team behind fallout: new vegas (wildly considered a top 100 if not top 25 games of all times, and a HUGE part of my childhood) was guaranteed a bonus if the game had a 85 average on metacritic.

It got 84.

part of the reason was the insane amount of bugs at release. Guess who rushed the game out to avoid paying that bonus?

Well there is another aspect to it: corruption. Sometimes companies are purposefully made to fail to lower their share costs and allow for insider trading or a cheaper buyout / merger. This would require some shady power that controls the majority of the industry through finance, but it's possible and has happened before in other industries. I don't know enough to talk about it much, I'm ignorant and I think it's just a theory.

I think some game studios believe they are too big to fail when working with giant IPs like Star Wars, Marvel or Doctor Who. And that's true (to an extent) because it takes time for an IP to be tainted by new renditions.

An honest person recognizes that accepting a bribe risks the operation, and factors that risk into the size of the bribe they would accept.

A normie sees nothing but free money and will accept absurdly low bribes. State reps might vote a certain way for $10k.

Counter argument:

If devs know doing this kills the game, and companies have tanked billions learning that lesson...

maybe stop hiring these consulting companies to fuck your game up. It's your game, not their game.

Every time they make something for them, it bombs. It gets great ratings, but it sucks so much no one wants to touch it.

Point this out until it's a mantra. You shit up the game for some quick bucks, it quickly becomes not your game, not your vision, and no one wants it.

Just make the game you want to make. The audience will be there.

– CulturalSeasoning [S] 3 points 3 days ago +3 / -0

Well that doesn't go against what I said at all. Devs know it hurts sales and can even lead to the entire company losing longtime loyal customers. They know what they're doing so obviously the benefit must outweigh the downside.

Another theory is that they are purposefully destroying the studios for insider trading and other shady corrupt stuff.

I think the studios just get these giant grants and so it doesn't matter if the game fails or not. The metacritic score is faked and they made money so the studio lives on to make another woke game.

Judging by the layoffs and studio closures after these games bomb, I don't think they thought their cunning plan all the way through.

Boycotts are working just fine. So fine, in fact, that tiny little companies like Microsoft and Sony are losing billions over them.

I disagree. From what I've gathered, the gaming industry is thriving more than ever. In recent years almost all the game studios were bought up by Sony and Microsoft, so the studio closures are just mergers and the layoffs are corporate downsizing / efficientization. There is no evidence that I've seen of any video game flops leading to established game studios closing down.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– BuckGerbil 2 points 3 days ago +2 / -0

If you haven't seen evidence then you haven't been paying attention.

Ubisoft closed several studios and sold off IP to China to stave off bankruptcy. EA was taken private because even their golden geese in Madden and (game formerly known as FIFA) aren't performing anywhere near their expectations. Then there are the closures of Volition, Firewalk, Arcane Austin etc, as well as several AAA studios like Bungie that are walking dead.

The AAA industry is on the brink of a collapse worse than 1983, and you have to be completely blind if you don't see it.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– throwawayaccount2037 2 points 3 days ago +2 / -0

This is true.

The problem is that they close down a legacy studio and then some new one pops up with "lead designer from popular franchise!" and it gets marketed like the next big thing under a new studio name pushing the same DEI slop.

I'll give you two examples: Exodus The Expanse

These two games are being propped up for the people working on them and their pedigree in the industry. Both games follow a similar formula and Exodus already shows all the usual signs of a DEI-infested game and they've only released bits of gameplay.

So it's the same thing under a different name. Money is changing hands from different players but the outcome still seems to be the same.

And that's not to mention that as old pubs like Ubisoft start folding in we have literal faggot-run media companies like Annapurna publishing games, movies and other media, all with a faggot-tint to them. So it's like a hydra -- cut off one head and two more appear.

I don't even keep up with new games anymore. Last modern game I bought was Elden Ring and only because a couple of my friends pressured me into it. It's a good game, but you still gotta pick your "body type" and most of the characters are women.

Idea: make a parody game of a modern game. It could be called "Faggot simulator" and all you do in the game is die of AIDS after making your gay character.

At minimum, a studio will cost 1M a year to run. At $20 per game of which 30% is taken by steam, that's what, 75,000 games sold per year just to break even? Most games sell less than 1,000...

You know Hades? That studio had a game before that called Pyre. It sold less than 100,000 copies. And this is an established studio...

Skyrim was made by a team of 100 people. Fallout 4 had about double that. By Starfield, Bethesda had grown to over 500 employees.

So just considering the wages of hundreds of employees, 1M a year is a probably a low all estimate for big studios.

But you could say my studio apartment is technically a game studio because I make games in it as a hobby. And my studio only costs a few hundred a month.

A good rule of thumb in the video game industry is that each employee costs $100,000 minimum (with benefits) + another $100,000 to "support" them (licenses, building, electricity, insurance, auditing/compliancec/hr/blahblah, computers, free fruits at lunch...)

A studio with 100 people would cost roughly $20M a year to run at the low end (maya subs are insanely expensive, also there are licenses for everything you do now). This is hoping that many of your artists/vfx only earn 60-80 else it can be more. A senior programmer can cost half a million to the company (counting benefits, cost of operation, support staff) easily.
