Non-buynary is still the way to go if you don't have the time or talent to make your own. AA studios are doing great, there's just more to sift through than being loyal to a few AAA studios. I've finally got around to Expedition 33 and am loving it. Plenty more stuff on my backlog after that
Small team of independent devs made it as a passion project. There are also a lot of games from the older generations that wed missed.
For me, entire consoles of game libraries that I missed out on are now available for free via emulator. I never had a DS or a GameCube, and therefore never played Ocarina of Time, or Banjo Kazooie, or Conkers Bad Fur Day, or Mario Sunshine. I really want to find a ROM for Metal Gear Twin Snakes.
