Damn man, that's some serious nightmare fuel.
Apple allegedly already bought up enough memory to last years.
Could be different model routing. You need a "thinking" model.
It's been probably about a year, but I ran an experiment with solving sudokus exactly like this using one of the "thinking" modes of chatGPT.
It showed the steps. In the case I tried chatGPT first analyzed the image and created a matrix of the numbers, e.g:
Line 1: * * * 1 * 2 * * * Line 2: * 4 * * 5 * * * 7 Line 3: 9 * * * * * * * * etc
Then it generated Python code to solve a sudoku. (there have to be tens of thousands or more of Python sudoko solvers in the training data)
Then it ran the Python code using the matrix as input.
It worked perfectly.
One of the things about AIs is that they are indeterminate--try the same input multiple times and you can radically different results. You absolutely need a "thinking" model to solve a Sudoku.
Good post, you hit the nail on the head. I'm unclear on how exactly the image generation portion words (the text to image stuff -- DallE was quite complicated when I've played with it directly), but if you write a prompt like "Draw a woman in the style of Renaissance artwork, playing up themes of innocence and virtue"
The LLM takes your prompt and adds descriptive textual details for the drawing portion. Innocence in Renaissance artwork, for instance, is often associated with nudity.
So the image gen spits out a tasteful nude.
Now that next level comes along and describes the generated image. Then analyzes the descriptions for no-nos. Real people. Copyrighted mouse characters. Pornography. Mean thoughts. Unwanted political ideologies. Whatever.
If it doesn't pass, the image gets rejected. Sometimes it's not clear why certain text responses or images are rejected. Silicon Valley puritan weirdos ideas of morality and safety are bizarre and out of touch with most people.
I'm generally not in favor of censoring speech or technology, but the amount of AI gooning going on is really insane.
I'm been an em dash enjoyer my entire life—as long as I can remember. Friends and colleagues have certainly heard me rant about em dashes, en dashes, and hyphens. ChatGPT has fucked it all up!
I feel like the guy in Office Space talking about Michael Bolton. AI's the shitty one, why should I have to change?
(And just to be clear, I use AI all the time, but I DON'T use it for writing. I use it for question and answer, google replacement, code review, log parsing, code generation, etc.)
Ugh. I can't even follow his posts this time around... at least they were consistent before!
Project 2025 involvement. Nice. You'd be popular in my neighborhood...there must be a dozen "Defeat Project 2025" signs up...still!
While I'm enjoying this slap fight, a lot actually, I'm missing context. Phishing links? Paid shill? Spill the beans!
I would say it's far worse to attempt to draw a false moral equivalency between drawing idealized or sexualized pictures of another adult and raping kids.
Times have really changed.
My dear deceased grandmother used to talk about people “fagging off” (slacking off, not trying, being a wuss—you get it). The toughest woman I’ve ever met. Beaten by her alcoholic dad as a kid, raised her siblings when her mom died (she never graduated middle school even), raised kids of her own, and then raised two of her grandkids after the mom became a druggie. I never heard her complain one time and, the most amazing part, she kept a sense of humor until the day she died.
They don’t make them—men or women—like that any more.
I guess I would say that I just don’t really care about deepfakes or people pearl clutching over it. It just seems obvious and self-evident that horny people are going to use it for that.
A very large percentage of the canon of Western art, from Greco-Roman through the Renaissance through impressionism, etc., involves drawing attractive human figures.
How many nudes of Helen of Troy, Leta, Aphrodite, and so on have there been? That is like the fan art of today.
And, shockingly, many artists used REAL LIVE people as their models and inspiration.
There's pornographic graffiti in Pompei of real people.

I watched a video about that a couple of years ago. Great stuff, highly recommended.
I had a computer science exam some ~20 years ago where we were writing (like, with pencil and paper!) C code. I had been programming in C since middle school while most of the class was learning C for the first time.
I wrote a very sexy copy loop with pointer arithmetic and a comment to the side explaining why, and pointing to a particular pre-increment in the copy as an optimization.
The TA took points off and wrote that micro optimizations are useless and, verbatim "premature optimization is the root of all evil."
I know exactly which TA wrote it, and he was, and I'm sure still is, an effeminate, arrogant, mincing prick. He just did not understand the code. Luckily I appealed to the professor and he reversed it. Yes, I'm still salty about this.
The prick works at Facebook today.
Hey, watch it with the genX slander. I haven't had cable in more than 16-17 years at this point!
College football timeouts. Yes, they've ruined the gameday experience too. There's a special TV timeout ref who walks onto the field during the TV breaks. I haven't been to a college football game in probably 10 years because between parking, security lines, a multitude of timeouts, traffic, etc., it's a good 5+ hour affair.
And yet, sports ratings are great, college sports are rolling in NIL money and ESPN revenue, and consumers just keep on consuming.
FML.
I clicked the Nighthawks link. Fascinating and cool!
What really got me is the salty as hell twitter replies. I don’t think i’ve ever seen any technology get this kind of vitriolic reaction.
As a kid I dreamed about how cool holodecks and holonovels would be (multiple Trek episodes have characters writing holonovels that are then implemented and run by the computer). It seems we may not be too far away from that future (without the magical touch aspects).
U street, huh?
I like Ethiopian food, but I noticed the same thing in Chicago. It was like the most popular cuisine amongst the gays in boys town. There’s probably a joke in there about liking food that blasts OUT of their assholes.
How did that happen? Social media? School peers? Media?
Side note, I remember you had posted on D&D before, and I looked back and saw the comment I remembered (D&D being a lifestyle, critical role, etc.)
Couldn't agree more.
I played some some AD&D/D&D in middle and highschool. I was always more of a video gamer, but my friend group had some really devoted roleplayers. Our group was a bunch of nerdy guys, and 1-2 nerdy girls, who read the manuals, read the novels, loved the rules, and loved geeking out about arcane knowledge of the systems and world.
My middle school kid today joined a D&D club after school. There are maybe 35-40 kids in the club, aged between 7th grade and 12 grade. I watched them play one day.
None of them know the rules. They make SOME appearance of rolling dice, etc., but it's basically all just free style ruleless roleplaying. None of the DMs had maps (our DMs always had elaborate maps on graph paper, floorplans of towers, etc.) or plans, they just winged it.
One time a kid was rolling a D20 to see if he could make an arrow show. He rolled a 7 and the DM said that was such a bad failure that the arrow ricocheted 3 times and it hit the archer in the eye. Nobody batted an eye. A few minutes later someone else tried, rolled an 11 and got a bullseye. The kids just accepted all this as part of the way D&D works.
It's interesting how much the hobby has changed...
Now, the story makes sense. Autistic white man.
Exactly. Autistic white men make the best (women) programmers.
From the article, a Bluesky post. An excellent example of how degenerates groom and promote grooming:
Aura/Moom @moomanibe.bsky.social · 20h in the early 2000s Rebecca took the time to chat over IRC with a teenaged and gender-confused Me on the practicalities of transition - in a time where being out as trans online was something that could get you socially ostracized. I owe her a lot for that and only hope I can pay it forward.
Reminder to all women out there--get your prostates checked. Prostate cancer is no joke.
Burger "Becky" earned the nickname "Burger" because he bought a whole bunch of cheap burgers, kept them in his desk drawer, and would eat them over the course of several days.
Having said that, Heineman WAS a rockstar programmer. He was a very talented assembly programmer in an era when that mattered and was not easy. He wrote and programmed Bard's Tale III. He was a founder of interplay. Just because he was mentally ill does not mean that these truths are now false.
Sadly, he was at ground zero for gay autistic males pretending to be women. He lived with another gay man, "Jennell Jaquays," who also died recently and who was very involved in early tabletop.
RIP Burger.
‘member when I said the shutdown was pointless and we were going to end up paying everyone whether they were working or not?
Whoopee.
No problem with AI music, but I don't care for this song.
Meh. You can ask the same kind of question for any schism or division or new religion.
"Why didn't the Jews and Christians believe that Muhammad was the final prophet of God? Whether you believe he's the final prophet or not, he was a real person. How did they survive so long not believing it?"
"Why didn't the Christians in America believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet?"
My non-flippant answer... Jews believe they are the chosen people. They believe in a covenant with God (this covenant being symbolized with circumcision). Why WOULD they go along with Jesus--a universalist religion, a removal of the covenant, etc.
Jews who became Christians lost an integral part of their identity.
