Originally they said to destroy their ballistic missile manufacturing capacity. Then Iran shut down the strait and the goal seems to have shifted to getting them to open that without a toll.
Also every time we back off, Israel seems to do strikes again to keep the war going, so having a rogue partner in the war kind of makes our goal irrelevant as long as we have any interest in the region whatsoever and are unwilling to bring said partner to heel.
