In the latest episode of Landman there's a scene that just made me red with anger. The scene involves a couple who recently had broken up. The male in the relationship had hit on some oil fields and is looking to make serious money. The woman he is dating breaks up with him because she doesn't want her life to change. So she breaks up with him and kicks him out of her house, so the dude leaves.
In this episode he comes back to get some clothes for a funeral. The guy starts crying and tells the woman he misses her, She tells him he didn't miss her enough to fight for her. That he didn't give her any options except to leave everything behind. And then she says the most galling part she tells him she might have kicked him out, but he's the one that left. What the fuck. What's a guy supposed to do? He leaves when she ask, no means no right, and then he's the one that's at fault because he listened to her?
I know I'm going to get the don't watch modern media spiel from some of this board, but I was really bothered by the attitude of the woman here. I think this is how most women think, and it's obnoxious
So she's what, 22?
Latina, they are all dumb and family shit, even if the family is full of shit people.
Landman has been consistent in displaying the women as crazy as fuck. And Billy Bob's character has pointed that out on numerous occasions. Like with his daughter and wife in particular.
Well I don't think you could argue that the wife and daughter are not crazy as fuck. The lawyer girlboss and Camey, Monty's wife, were not crazy.
The lawyer is portrayed as too arrogant for her own good and Camey as too naive for her own good. One of them already gets a slap in the face in E5. So far the only truly competent characters in Landman are Tommy, Dale and Nathan.
I know libs complained about it from day one, but I think they're actually right and this show really does hate women.
They're all fucking terrible 🤣 even the daughter has gotten noticably dumber in S2, every one of her scenes has some dig at how unintelligent or ignorant she is.
I agree with you, she does seem dumber than the first season.
Although she set a pretty low bar for intelligence in the first and second episode with the agreement made with her dad, to not have sex on the couch with her boyfriend, then, telling the boyfriend they were breaking up because he wanted to have sex anyways, and being shocked that he took her literally and left, by saying something like, "He should have changed his mind and done what I wanted." That was pretty fucking stupid of her to expect him to read her mind and do the opposite of what she said.
Good work RhodesianRidgeback! Good work!
I watched that scene too. it perfectly encapsulates men logic versus women logic, and how it creates stupid fucking arguments in relationships.
Men:
Women:
by and large, men are direct creatures. if they want something, they will clearly signal that they want it and often take action to get it. they hardly ever engage in double speak.
woman, on the other hand, are indirect creatures. they will do and say whatever they think will get them closer to what they want. they speak half truths, omit certain details, and oftentimes even lie so that they can manipulate the situation into giving them what they want. Outright saying what they want risks other people telling them "no".
What's funny is that I've seen this exact type of story a million times on relation advice type of forums. Absolutely nothing unrealistic about this scene, the way OP describes it.
Yeah, it's perfectly realistic. It's basically the same albeit significantly less crazy dynamic as the one between his parents.
Is it the son and the Mexican chick? Haven't seen the new season yet but the relationship drama was easily the worst part of season 1
You got it. I know right. Just give me Billy Bob pissed of speeches for 45 minutes, that's what I come for.
Four episodes in and it's not as good as Season 1. Episode 3 was pretty much an episode praising females for the entire thing. It's not without it's moments but take your time getting to it, you ain't missing much
Billy Bob is the only reason I watch it too.
He gets bitch slapped by girl boss demi moore though. Because even though she inherited the job 2 minutes ago - she must be respected for some reason.
She's actually has been letting him run things. And in this latest episode she tries negotiating with someone and he tells her he'll only work with Tommy. Now it's the Cartel guy Andy Garcia, so you know he's planning shady shit.
Still Moore isn't girl boss yet, but I think they are working up to it there's tension about her taking over the business. And given Sheridan's penchant towards "powerful" female characters it's probably inevitable
Yeah there’s another episode available after the one you’re describing…
🏴☠️ arrr. Ahoy there. 🏴☠️
Was she portrayed as sympathetic or unreasonable for those actions?
If you write a bitch character who acts like a bitch and acknowledge she's being a bitch, is that really a "modern media" moment? Or is it a realistic depiction of something that happens to men and accurately written characters?
they get back together after the guy apologizes to her for not understanding her feelings. at no point does he say to her "that's fucking stupid, tell me what you really want next time"
Yeah, that's retarded then.
To be fair, this character seems to have absolutely no history with women. Cracking under the pressure and just giving in seems to be pretty on-point for this kid, even if the bitch is certifiably nuts and has no idea of what she wants. He doesn't have the toolkit to spot the red flags.
Well I'd say they wrote her to be sympathetic. Later in the episode she takes him back because he apologizes for wanting to make her dreams come true. And his father and grandfather tells him to just do whatever she wants him to do.
Time to crack out the ol' Cartman special "bitch song".
I agree 100% - it was annoying as fuck.
Not to mention every single character including even Grandpa praising her for being so fucking amazing at everything while telling Cooper what a stupid piece of shit he is.
So far the series has been really great, especially all the times Billy Bob sets the bitchy Gen Z lawyer straight on the woke bullshit she believes, but Jesus Christ episode 3 was just pure feminist mind cancer.
I hope they cut that shit out pronto
Billy Bob was amazing in season 1. Season 2 he's been a little under wraps. I need a new character every week so he can just tell them about the oil business because those scenes are worth the price of admission
i watched season 1 of Landman and its got its moments but it's such a chick show in disguise. what you just described absolutely tracks with stupid bitch logic in real life. So, I guess good job sheridan.
also, sheridan has always loved his stronk womyn since day one
most likely gonna watch season 2 when it finishes I can't go week by week anymore and this way I can skip all the girly yak yaks.
I watched season 1 after all the episodes dropped and I think it helped my enjoyment of it.
Sheridan does love his tough girls, I couldn't stand Beth in Yellowstone. It was so over the top and stupid.
Someone needs to make something like the SponsorBlock extension for that show that auto-skips all the female parts.
Taylor Sheridan strikes me as a guy who wants to make masculine media in a Liberal-Progressive entertainment environment.
Hell or Highwater is a fantastic film and Sicario is one of the best crime thrillers out there.
But I steered clear of his shows because (1) time investment, and (2) the networks are all about pushing Liberal Progressivism one way or another.
These shows strike me as the Scott Galloway approach to masculinity, somewhat highlighting there is a problem but going about the solutions by still undermining men.
Just do what I do and only watch the parts with Billy Bob Thornton in it.
