I know why they're trying to make this comparison, but just go ahead, attack the US's 'boats' in this situation. I'm sure that'll work out..

For all the criticism I have of China, I can at least say this, they BUILT their OWN network, firewall and social credit system. The EU is demanding the US makes their own social media build one FOR THEM ignoring how much that is rejected by the First ammendment in the US.

They've had decades to even get started and they didn't, just piggybacked off whatever the US had.

The EU wants to dictate American tech policy while having no legitimate tech industry of their own. EU fines of American tech companies generate more revenue for the EU than the taxes on their own tech industry. Elon and company should immediately stop paying said fines. Let Europe wither and die.

I also generate more revenue for the EU than the EU tech industry.

Twitter shouldn't leave EU, but every time they get a bullshit fine raise prices on Europeans.

EU fines them $150 million, now blue checkmark costs $10 instead of $8 for Europeans. EU government account checkmark costs $1 million/mo instead of free.

Let Europe pay for their own fines.

Howard Lutnick, the commerce secretary, has explicitly linked U.S. tariffs on European steel to demands that Europe weakens its digital regulations. If the EU tried to make comparable demands on the United States, we’d consider it an outrageous infringement on our national sovereignty.

Like demanding that tech companies violate the first amendment rights of American citizens? I'm sure we would treat it as an infringement on our sovereignty, and would behave accordingly, like we are in this very instance.

If the EU wants to boss us around, they can 10x their military spending and get back to us. Until then, they can all shut the fuck up and do what we tell them to do, and we are telling them to take their digital regulations and shove them up their ass.

Shouldn't have tried to fine the US.

Ah, Krugman, a guy who was correct once in his life, won an award for it, and has been coasting ever since.

"What makes this episode especially disturbing is that the U.S. government appears to be using its power to support the broligarchy’s fight against European regulation. Howard Lutnick, the commerce secretary, has explicitly linked U.S. tariffs on European steel to demands that Europe weakens its digital regulations. If the EU tried to make comparable demands on the United States, we’d consider it an outrageous infringement on our national sovereignty. And I’m pretty sure that making this linkage violates U.S. trade law too. But rule of law is for the little people.

The key point is that if you think of unregulated social media as dangerous drugs, as you should, then we’ve become a nation in which drug lords control much of government policy. Social media billionaires have enough power to prevent us from protecting our own children. They have enough power to dictate U.S. foreign policy, punishing our erstwhile allies for daring to limit their ability to push their product."

I didn't know tech billionaires recently made it impossible to use the parental control avaliable on basically every modern device. /s

bully Europe

Of all the bullying that the US does do, "Europeans should have free speech" ain't one of them.

Yet it was a UK LEO that went online and threatened Americans for using Freedom of Speech in America.
