Howard Lutnick, the commerce secretary, has explicitly linked U.S. tariffs on European steel to demands that Europe weakens its digital regulations. If the EU tried to make comparable demands on the United States, we’d consider it an outrageous infringement on our national sovereignty.
Like demanding that tech companies violate the first amendment rights of American citizens? I'm sure we would treat it as an infringement on our sovereignty, and would behave accordingly, like we are in this very instance.
If the EU wants to boss us around, they can 10x their military spending and get back to us. Until then, they can all shut the fuck up and do what we tell them to do, and we are telling them to take their digital regulations and shove them up their ass.
