I met Gaben once. It was going well until I mentioned having a PlayStation. There was an awkward pause, then he called me a fag and walked away. He’s a great man.
Not the first time Steam did something woke. They had sales festivals with troon artwork before. In fact I think one of the Christmas sales had a troon calarts mascot years back.
They bought up that one studio some years back and all the little wokeness started sneaking in around that time.
So its likely they keep letting the sub-studio do these types of things for them and not checking on it, because Gaben is on his 7th yacht rolling fatties.
Devil's advocate: Freaks buying bad games with Tumblr art is probably a decent amount of money when you're taking 30% of the indie/blogger self-fellatio machine's revenue. Storefronts are different than being a dev or publisher. If you're a game studio and you try to appeal to the 0.05% at the cost of 30%+ of your audience, you're retarded. If you're Steam or Kickstarter though? You're really not going to lose anyone over ads, but you will win over the spergs who clap when they see themselves "represented." Consider that Valve probably made about $1m by hosting just Gone Home on their storefront.
BUT it only works as long as you don't cave to them on any sort of actual policy because then they will drive your company into the ground by alienating your majority customers.
The reason is probably far simpler. Ad agencies are generally woke. Valve doesn't do these commercials in house and Gaben really doesn't give enough of a shit to care whether or not the agency uses a tranny.
Besides Steam is dependent on the payment processors that push the woke agenda. They can't afford to piss them off. So no good reason for Valve to get involved in politics.
But Steam is a money-printing machine. A near monopoly and has many controversies under its belt by now. Why would you think that they'd make a principled stance on anything?
Gaben is floating around somewhere in the Mediterranean on a mega-yacht. The last time he coded something was probably when he had to set the shock-collars of his underaged sex slaves.
Hard to call it a near monopoly when they have plenty of competition, Can't blame them for being so successful because the competition keeps shooting themselves in the foot.
It is a rare instance when a company has vast market dominance simply because they are good and not because they bought out and gutted the competition.
And it's not even that Steam is really great, it's just not actively sabotaging the user experience like some other outlets. There are still a lot of weird idiosyncracies they should have sorted out by now (especially when it comes to controller support), but when you have companies like EA, Ubisoft, and Epic actively being antagonistic toward their audience -- not adding basic consumer-friendly features -- it's easy for Valve to pull ahead just like you said.

99% sure they just hired some marketing team. No, Gabe didn't say "let's put in the tranny", lol.
Still, not a good look. No one wants to see that.

This should have been a video.

or they got a big amount of cash from banks or threats from the adl to do it.
To include a tranny in a commercial? Who appears on screen for maybe 2 seconds?
think in more general terms.
I outgrew steam machines back in Victorian England.
So you gave it the Electric Slide?
There is a moderate chance this is accidentally a heterosexual couple ( male tranny on the left, female tranny on the right ).
That’s just the average steam user (sarcasm)
I see the Steam Deck can be modified to fit my desires.
All of it should. The VR and controllers shouldn't be so heavily connected to steam or facebook in the case of the quest.
rofl

I know that, but still, it works as a meme.
God I fucking hate trannies so much
I saw that and it really hampered my otherwise positive sentiment about the Steam Machine announcement.
This product is a decade late, literally.
I never even noticed. I was too busy focusing on the hardware to care about the visuals.
its ok I'm not the target market anyway. cant imagine using a gaming rig I didn't build myself.
