The very first sentence he says in his reply is "I didn't say this about Chinese but..." and he goes on to explain what happens if you suddenly get rid of all foreign students.
So anyone who characterizes it as "Trump wants 600,000 Chinese students..." automatically loses my respect and for me, it's deliberate misinformation, and hence I suspect their real motives.
I think people are angry enough at this point to cut them some slack on missing the finer points.
