It's season 2 of a Netflix show. They always bring in the race and gender swapping shit after they draw you in with the first season. Anybody disappointed by this never should have gotten their hopes up to begin with. Modern Hollywood is lame and gay.
Actually the casting makes sense, under their Hollywood rubric white women can't be buxom.
Probably someone was just like "eyyy - - there are no blah bitches in this show."
In fairness black people are more likely to name a child Nefertari Vivi.

I've haven't even watched the first season. I don't see the appeal of a live action adaption with shitty CGI and effects if I can watch the vastly superior anime.

The author's probably like JK Rowling. It was likely that it was someone else's idea to race swap, but the author wont speak out against it because he doesn't want to be seen as racist.
But what im learning from this is that you can't expect much from authors that have "muh racism" and "muh discrimination" as themes in the story. One Piece has some of those anti discrimination themes just like Harry Potter but it isn't obnoxious about it so it usually gets a pass, but its still clear that the author is an idiot.
Let's hope it crashes and burns like the live action Cowboy Bebop or that Halo show on Paramount+.

I doubt the show will get far enough, but I'd hate to see what Netflix would do to Boa Hancock.
