one of the many reasons why I have no faith in academia. the conclusions very wildly, so the only papers that get published are the ones that reinforce existing conclusions. you could do your PhD and run a study that completely counters your professor's previous findings, and they will hold your degree hostage until your study agrees with their genius.
I know it’s at least discussed more prominently in some field than others, but this sadly true. There are many fields where they have a “groundbreaking discovery” that turns out to be something discovered at least a decade ago, but because the cabal exists and one academics claims to fame was x, disproving x would damage his credibility, so it gets shoeboxed until they die. This is unfortunately what happens when you allow an oligarchy or monopoly to exist in any sense, and academia is far far worse than Standard Oil could have dreamed of.
turns out to be something discovered at least a decade ago
The first reason for this is that students and Academics largely don't read the literature. The second is that for decades now the literature is garbage. In my tiny area of expertise, I can't tell you how often I don't make it past the abstract before chucking a paper into the round filing cabinet. My theory is that statistics ruined the Academy; they allow people to conduct "research" by floating in the wind and shoving their garbage data from their garbage "experiments" through garbage "models" and claiming they've done something. Prior to the middle of last century a researcher was expected to develop formulae and a mechanistic theory for how they thought shit works and for these to actually be useful; now its all garbage correlations.
Then they expect me to "listen to the experts." Its the Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect PhD Edition.
I'm convinced most people are too dumb or lazy to understand statistics or even counting numbers.
It's not even that correlations are useless, it's that people will fail to even try to isolate what they're trying to measure and try to use quantitative analysis for a sample of 15 data points over 30 years.
Dude, everybody knew government, media and the scientific “experts” were full of shit throughout the entire Covid psychological operation, and yet the majority went along with the lies, the exaggerations, and the insane policies that were based on those lies and exaggerations. Only a small percent of the population (maybe 20% but that’s probably way too generous) is capable of independent thought and action, they’re the ones who truly wanted to fight back against the lies and damaging agendas during Covid, but they’re being held hostage by the 80% of goycattle who do as they’re told by perceived authority figures no matter how pointless it is or how much it might harm society as a whole, including their own lives. Not only is it be possible for the corrupt fucks in our government to do what they did during Covid all over again, they now know exactly how far they can push against our own interests before public outrage might become a problem, and it’s way further than I’m comfortable with.
with all the information we have now about how ineffectual governance was on the entire thing?
The government of my naton insists lockdowns worked, masks worked, forced injections was morally right and worked and probably 60% of the population here agrees with that.
During my psyche undergrad research project nearly every group (of all girls, I was the only male out of like 40) lost considerable grade points for fudging or downright altering data to make their hypothesis fit and the project succeed. From deleting anomalous points to going back to change the words so you were "always expecting this" to just filling out their own surveys. No regard for anything but being right and only cared because they got caught.
These were juniors, so those who had already past the filtering period and were going to graduate. And a few I knew personally from other classes already had grad school lined up and paid for (because woman and color means free money). So the "future" of the research industry.
So you should never expect shit from "experts and researches" beyond them to find what they were paid to find. And their data is only useful if it was collected from a raw source, like a database instead of a questionnaire.
I remember in one of my science classes one day my teacher said "I noticed some of you turned in assignments where all the data points fit within expected parameters and almost perfectly fit the hypothesis. I watched all of you during the assignment...next time please do not pick-and-choose your equipment readings."
He was right; some of the students misunderstood the assignment and scrambled to rerun the tests, a few others really wanted that A.
A lot of the time I don't even think its malicious, its people are so trained by the education system to think "being wrong" means "zero points." So when their data starts coming back as disproving their hypothesis, they think it'll be a failure and panic.
But regardless of the reason, it undermines almost all studies they do when they show themselves willing to fudge data to protect their appearance/grade/ego.

Science advances one funeral at a time.
During the next covid:
25% of these scientists would propose lockdowns/concentration camps for the unvaccinated/ vaccine mandates.
17% would propose a sweden solution.
58% would be quiet.
Reality: 100% of these teams know where the hidden model variables are and how to tweak them :
Almost 100% of scientists would suggest exactly what the government wants
Can there be a next covid with all the information we have now about how ineffectual governance was on the entire thing?
I've never seen such slavery in action, but there it was.

Social science is not science, it's a troyan horse on science. Reminder they consider formal science "too white"
Soft sciences only work on stats and even at that they forget about controls and outliers.
There's nothing science about social studies. Important stuff I'm sure, but it's not science.
X
We already have entire academic institutions dedicated to denying reality because it's racist.
Yet stereotypes remain better predictors than whatever weak correlation they try to squeeze out of a data set at the moment.
Yes, social sciences are complete garbage and it's all made up and non replicatable.

oops. its from 2022
So it's worse now
