The guy that does this stuff (IFightForKids on twitter -- that's a link to his current pinned post, the arrest video of the pedo in question, be warned there's bare ass as he's forced to remove his literally shitty diaper and put on big boy pants) has a history of working closely with the cops. He's got a conviction in most of the contiguous US at this point, IIRC.
I've heard a little about him, but the difference between him and Chris Hanson is that this guy sets up the stings, then calls the cops when they have their mark, while NBC were working hand in hand with the cops from the start.
