Casually throwing this in the middle to remind us that they don't care about the problem until it effects them or starts having major consequences on their own life.
Whoever this guy is part of the reason why things ever get so bad. Because they want special exceptions for their "fun party drugs" and then us to turn around and be extra super serious about the problem with their "Current Buzzword Drugs."
As if crack cocaine didn't do almost everything he is speaking about for decades before fent hit the scene, but he just casually tosses it off with "who really cares" to moralize about how Fent is the real evil because its "chemical."

Because in that single sentence he lets us know that he not only thinks most drugs aren't a big deal and shouldn't be illegal, but probably consumed enough of them to feel familiar with them. Even though they were in fact illegal and he contributed to the same black market industry he spends this whole creed whining about.

Any time you see complaining about the tariffs, then simply ask why the Canadian government is more concerned about protecting their illegal fentanyl industry than they are about Canadian citizens crushed by a trade war and fentanyl overdoses. Canada started this mess, not Trump.
In Vancouver we have a system where: -Chinese bank opens a branch in Canada and vice versa. -Chinese person takes a loan in China that is paid out in Canada and put towards a house. Loan is paid off in China. -Chinese satellite family takes a loan against property in Canada. -Triads give the family cash money from drugs. -Loan against Canadian property undergoes "renovations" by Triads and washed money gets paid out to them. -Chinese person lives off of the bag of drug money.
In Canada, we understand that our human misery finances capital flight, money laundering and housing at a scale so great that forms of it have been named and reported on domestically and internationally. We accept that this easy money is churned through our economy and ultimately benefits older generations so that they don't complain while their property values increase to such astronomical values that they can borrow against them to live off of them in near perpetuity.

It's pretty split on FC. Lots of guys there get upset when you point out that PP will let them down. They'll say he's way better than Trudeau and they worry you'll help split the vote with PPC.

I think the volume of fentanyl being smuggled in from the North still hasn't been quantified. And is just typical Trump bluster.
Even if fentanyl production in Canada is such a national security threat problem for the US, it's the job of US authorities to stop its smuggling at the border, not the Canadian border agency. Customs and border control regulate what comes in, not what goes out.
You can certainly argue that provincial and federal police on the Canadian side should crack down on domestic labs and imports from China coming into the Vancouver port.
But Trump keeps complaining about Canadian lax border security, not domestic policing.
Not true, it's so large that El Chapo apparently thinks Canada is more profitable than Mexico.
Nothing is hard and fast in negotiations with no referee. We can and will blame Mexico for not stopping the illegals passing through, and we can and will blame Canada for allowing organized crime to squat in their neighborhoods.

I agree that it's bizarre to see the MAGA influencer crowd march in lockstep towards Canada and Greenland. Especially the immediate switch to military dick measuring. A lot of it is grifting, but Trump is also has a genius knowledge of his audience and I think he sensed this is a wave he can ride.
I don't think Trump actually wants to absorb Canada, though. If that turns out to be the case it would be more alarming, but in my opinion this is a business negotiation ploy that he's used many times before. The example I always go to is that he called Ben Carson a dangerous maniac but later invited him to join his cabinet.
