the traditional right has always been against video games.

The traditional right mostly still yearns for a world that has long since ceased to exist and they just can't let it go.

Like, guys can't just have hobbies like "working on their car" because cars aren't made the way they were when they were younger and are impossibly more complicated and expensive now. Not to mention Obama killing off the used car market and making beaters cost a shit ton to begin with. So your starting investment is much higher, you're much more likely to fail, and you lose a shit ton more when you do.

But that's the kind of "acceptable" hobbies they push instead without realizing why those aren't as appealing anymore.

Traditionalist far right Christian here.

We advocate reading, shooting and learning self sufficiency life skills. Everybody should know how to read and how to cook, women should know how to sew, etc.

But I've never met anyone in my neck of the woods who earnestly advocates fixing cars as an alternative hobby to video games. The few guys I know who don't play video games love board games or cards.

Most of the ones in my neck of the woods advocate cars, farming, and garage shop type activities (wood working or similar) and will loudly declare those the only proper things a man should have as a hobby.

There is probably a large divide here between trad right guys online, and trad right guys out in the world, because most of the aforementioned men I know barely use a computer to spread their message to anyone. These are not philosophers, they don't read beyond the Bible, they are a living stereotype in a lot of ways. But they are very loud in Church and everywhere else in the community about these things.

Nothing against those options, for the record, but if you don't inherit a shit ton of tools or land from your father you aren't getting into them. Speaking as someone currently waiting for his father in law to pass so I can get his bandsaw/lathe in my own garage.

Fair enough, certainly might be a regional thing.

Same. Lol I don't know anyone fixing cars as a hobby.

To tinker with cars as a hobby, one requires property, a garage (particularly one big enough to work in, probably at least two bays so you have somewhere to park your commuter vehicle while your hobby vehicle sits immobile in the second bay), cabinets & walls full of tools, etc.

So right off the bat, these requirements are going to price out most teens & young men unless they live with parents who own these assets, live rurally, have a father that owns a business, etc.

Another problem with living like a bugman in a tiny box in the sky.

Yep. I still remember them as my first enemy while growing up, and I only made allies with them because they were more likely to go my way than the SJW's who were far more likely to destroy the things I love. But those right wingers never changed, and I took plenty of chances to dunk on the likes of Matt Walsh and his ilk when it was outside of the handful of times he actually said something worthwhile.

It was always going to go back to this. But I think that they arent going to win any more than the SJW's did. Hell, part of the reason I and a lot of my friends ended up liking Trump and the MAGA types is because a lot of them cared about the culture, but didnt want to ruin our games and movies like the TradCons did.

My first foray into the world of politics was Hillary Clinton trying to ban video games in the 90s, so I think its always been a "mutual alliance" on both ends of this equation between the Left and Right.

And it was Ron Paul who stopped them by the way. Hillary Clinton and Tipper Gore came very close to banning video game mods and making video games federally regulated.

To play devil's advocate (heh). The traditional right mostly cares about making violent or sexual content unaviable to kids. Most didn't care what adults did with their games, at worst they tell you you are a manchild wasting your time.

This is groypers and other glowing groups that think the right isn't extremist enough, so they coincidentally drive normies away with thots posing as purists(?) and other kinds of purity spirals

the SeXbox controversy begs to differ. The trad right had their panties in a twist because Mass Effect, an M-rated game, had an R-rated sex scene in it that supposedly kids could watch.

And now it's troons and struggle sessions, maybe you should have payed attention to what they were saying? Maybe if those issues had been given more credence things would not be 1000x worse now?

supposedly

Yeah, they totally weren't doing it. Uh huh. It's all made up "supposedly" that kids were playing Mass Effect. Now it's all "supposedly" that kids are being trooned and exposed to gay porn in schools.

One day you will realise that they are saying exactly the same thing about YOU now that they were saying about legitimate issues then. But not today it seems.

what videogames kids consumed at the time was 100% on the parents. Games had to be bought or rented at physical stores. Games were well labeled like movies were. There was no need to ban or censor videogame because a bunch of pearl catchers cried "think of the children!!!".

You want something to blame for kids trooning out? blame actual Internet porn.

kids

Yes, that's what I meant.

Honestly, looking at how they made Geoff keighley look reasonable of all people, I'm thinking this was another industry effort (ie. Jack Thompson) to shit on Fox news for being out of touch, because they clearly don't know what they are talking about

"Won't someone please think of the children!" has been used as entryism forever. It's what every attempt to censor the Internet or remove anonymity leads with. If's what the pearl-clutches have always lead with.

Problem is now, after they've cried wolf so many times, sickos are actually going after the children and no one wants to admit it's real.
