I'm all for defunding the police and requiring conscription into a communal militia, along with mandatory firearm, physical combatives, and life-saving medical care training. Including mandatory personal carry for all able-bodied adult males between 16-65. Also, we should be able to shoot thieves.
But this isn't the world these types want. They want the criminals to not commit crime, but also for the cops to never enforce the law, but for the law to be magically enforced so that she can feel safe, without anyone taking responsibility for anyone elses' safety.
They only want the criminals to not commit crime against themselves, not in general. "Looting a local ma and pop shop then torching it to cinders is just reparations, they totally have insurance that is insured against acts of terrorism that will pay out immediately and have their shop running again in a day or two!"
They don't care about that quite as much.

Just about the only value police have to your average citizen is as a deterrent to potential criminals- which obviously only partially works.
Courts have consistently held that they have no duty to intervene even if they witness a crime in progress, meaning they can sit there while you are robbed, beaten, or killed, and there is no recourse.
Property crimes for people like you and me are rarely investigated at all. I posted elsewhere just this morning that I've known people who reported mail theft with video of the thieves in action including their license plate number and the police did nothing. I know multiple people who have had break-ins, and all they do is file a report.
In contrast, they seem to have plenty of manpower to issue you traffic tickets and various other revenue generating citations.
I guarantee the CEO assassin manhunt is the most work the NYPD begrudgingly did all year, and 2024 is almost over.

I'd say just stop all federal funds for California and send all the illegals there. Crash the state with their own policies that they demand until they come crawling back for help.

Stop (at least almost) all federal funds to all states. They're just used as strings to move the puppets. Remove federal income tax, remove a bunch of regulations, and let states do their own things, as originally intended.
