Forcing women to physically compete with men is progressive now. Clown world never stops.

This guy is six foot one, and apparently has some hops, so allowing him to play on a seven foot four net is fucking criminal. If he has any hitting skill at all he can essentially hit straight down, even from the 10m line, and can most likely hit over the top of any block the opposing team can put up. His spikes are apparently clocked somewhere in the vicinity of 80 mph, which for an Olympic competition level man is respectable, for a female is unheard of.

It's like they have a MLB pitcher pitching to collegiate level women softball players.

--edit--

Oh, and the school can make the players go to the match, but the school can't make them play, that is up to them, and there isn't a damned thing the school can do about it, except maybe threaten any scholarships, but they'll get sued about mach 20 if the school tries that.

I don't think the height is really it. Lots of women are 6'1" especially amongst volleyball players.

True, but they don't have the arm strength, or the leaping ability, of men. Women just can't hit as hard. You will find numerous examples of very long rallies in womens games, but you rarely see that in men, just because of the power men can put into their spikes.

I know they be spiking it. When I was a kid, we considered you a pussy if you complained about getting hit by a volleyball.

Which sounds bad, you know 80mph and bullshit, until you realize I was getting hit by baseballs at that speed (or probably a little faster) -- not every day but it happens. Little kids have no accuracy in case no one noticed.

Ghost archive link

The players’ decision and statement were made independently, and without consultation with the University or the athletic department. The players’ decision also does not represent the position of the University.
[...]
The University intends to move forward with the match as scheduled, and the players may choose not to participate in the match on the day of the contest. No players will be subject to any team disciplinary action for their decision not to participate in the match.

Edit: Another odd part of this saga in San Jose is that one of the man's teammates also doesn't want him there.

When Brooke Slusser transferred to San Jose State from Alabama, she had no idea she'd be competing with a male athlete on her women's volleyball team. This was a well-kept secret by the SJSU athletic department.
[...]
"When that first article came out, it was quite literally just a media meeting talking about, 'Don't make comments. If media people come up to you, it's not your story to tell,'" Slusser explained. "And that was really it. It wasn't, ‘How do we feel about this? Are we okay?’ It was how to handle the media and not make it look like there's a problem [...]
last month, Slusser joined more than a dozen other female athletes in suing the NCAA for Title IX violations for allowing male athletes to compete in women's sports and to utilize their locker rooms.

Whatever was happening, he had the ruse going since high school. https://ghostarchive.org/archive/JloLy

While the exact age Fleming was transitioned is unknown, early photos posted to his aunt’s Facebook show he was raised as a boy, and only began presenting in feminine clothing in 2016 when he would have been approximately 14 years old. His family members have been careful not to publicly identify him as transgender, but his grandmother referred to him as her “grandson” in an early photo.

Upon attending the match, she immediately noticed that Fleming appeared to be male, both in the way he looked and his mannerisms on the court.

When they move, you can always clock em. The pic was ambiguous, as pics often are.

Just stand at the edge of the volleyball court and let the other team win.

They want to win that badly, there's the whole game. Go right ahead.

Follow the money. I would bet the university would have to pony up some $$$ if they fail to play as scheduled due to a university-level decision. If, on the other hand, the players don't show up, why that's out of their control!

Well maybe... But for a women's volleyball game, it would probably be about $3.50.

If they have a spine they just won’t show up.
