Rust for Linux maintainer steps down in frustration with 'nontechnical nonsense' (archive.ph)

For anyone who might not be aware, Rust has a Code of Conduct that includes such wonderful rules as "Remarks that moderators find inappropriate, whether listed in the code of conduct or not, are also not allowed," had a conference with 50% trans/"non-binary" speakers, and its community is generally full of "nontechnical nonsense" like promotion of trans politics.

So it's rich that this bastard wants to complain about C developers telling him to fuck off. He's a Microsoft employee too, so it's hard for me to not see this as pulling "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish" on the open source community by injecting it with radical leftist politics which are incompatible with an environment of meritocracy.

The entire Rust community is genuinely a batshit insane cult.

had a conference with 50% trans/"non-binary" speakers,

It is aptly named Rust. They're the rust on humanity.

Specifically Ted Ts'o, who is one of the most prolific kernel maintainers. Probably 100x more valuable to the project than this Rust guy.

And Ts'o is absolutely correct: if the Linux kernel ends up moving in the direction where this Rust guy wants it to go, eventually he would have to learn Rust. Putting aside the simple fact that this happens on every project which uses multiple languages, the Rust guy saying he's fine with Rust being a "second class citizen" won't be fine with that status quo forever.

He's a Microsoft employee too, so it's hard for me to not see this as pulling "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish" on the open source community by injecting it with radical leftist politics which are incompatible with an environment of meritocracy.

That reminds me of when anons found Apigee, a Microsoft spinoff.

  • Sam Ramji - "As Microsoft's senior director of platform strategy, his job is a big one: overseeing the company's initiatives in Linux and open source."
  • Bryan Kirschner - Microsoft's Director of Open Source Strategy from 1999-2009
  • Shanley Kane was the company's head of developer relation

Crunchbase says that the company only had fourteen employees. Those are three of them. Anons were too distracted by the CEO's relationship with a guy named Dick Dong Wang to do any further research.

I was going to mess with Rust someday because I'd heard good things and it was a compiled language. Eh, maybe I don't need to bother just for educational purposes. I'd rather spend the time on things less infested.

Good. Rust is a plague, even without the wokeness.

C works just fine and the C codebase is mature so leave it the fuck alone

" TROONS could be here" he thought.

The only way to save Rust is probably to fork it, bring over developers based on merit and gatekeep the living hell out of letting non-productive woke ponces have any kind of authority.

Same with the linux kernel, most likely. Once Linus throws up his hands and walks away the whole thing will probably implode.

And no "code of conduct". Go full Darwin.

Once Linus throws up his hands and walks away

Why would he do that? He probably loves troons. But that would be typical liberal behavior - voting for destruction and then moving to another state to escape the consequences of their behavior.

I wonder how this will affect the COSMIC desktop since it was built on Rust and it looks pretty good. It'd be a shame that it gets its legs chopped off because of retards behind Rust.

Funny you mention Cosmic, considering the PopOS dude recently went on a tirade about how much he hates the Linux kernel and its devs.

You know, the guys that enabled your branded operating system that ships on your hardware. Fuck them, right?

I'm not that familiar with COSMIC but I don't believe that this would have any impact on a DE. Aside from Rust maybe falling out of favor, that is.
