The reasons for his refusal are funny. There's a dynasty feature in the game where your offspring inherit some of your traits and possessions. So he made marriage a feature to create children and heirs. They complained they couldn't get gayrried, and he just said "gay couples can't make kids."
Yup. It sounds like there aren't even really relationships at all, merely having children for gameplay reasons.
And yet the idiot brigade is calling him "evil," a "bigot," that he said "heinous things" and did "awful behavior."

I think he more or less said system not in place use your imagination. And they got mad.
That game's been on my wishlist but I don't buy games unless there is a sale or dev states "no big sales / price will only go up". Factorio and Rimworld for example. I'll wait and see how this plays out and buy if he doesn't bend the knee.

It'd be funny to give a gay option and if you take it then your legacy and anything you had saved up just gets deleted.

Which is extra based because that's the whole fucking point the very concept of "marriage." An agreement between two sexually comparable individuals enter in to in order to foster a healthy family with which to thrive in. Money is made to buy the food that is required to feed the next generation that is to be brought into the world. Babies are nurtured throughout adolescent (because it's a lot of fucking work to keep a toddler from killing itself due to its own stupidity. Seriously, what the hell is up with humans natural desire to off itself?). The kids grow up and the cycle begins anew. It's not complicated, but it sure has been bastardized. The plot is lost if you will.
I could not care less if you are gay or if you found yourself a fuck buddy. That's as far as that relationship will ever get. You don't need to be married to do that. It serves no purpose. Marriage is there to rope in the deadbeats knocking up whoever the fuck they felt like and actually care for the kid they forced upon society.
Even if the devs add lgbt bullshit, lefties wont buy it anyways. They force their crap in and move onto the next game to force crap in.

Has anyone actually played this? When done well, extremely complex roguelikes offer some of the best, most memorable gameplay there is. But so many of them fall into either the "hard equals good" mindset or they'll just toss the player into the deep end and expect them to learn to swim by spending 50 hours reading the wiki. Neither design philosophy is fun at all to me. I'm really hoping this one finally got it just right.
It's got a playable demo on steam. I remember playing on a steam next fest a long time back but bounced off it before digging very deep.
I put it on my wishlist, will give it a shot once the fall gets here. Iโm too busy for much gaming right now. I agree though, Iโm not usually into roguelikes for similar reason, Iโd love to see one that would give me some real and understandable character development potential, and not โchoose your random shitโ this run or just getting crushed with no idea where to go.
Procgen roguelike / roguelite slop is so popular because it allows lazy devs to stretch an hour of content into a "full" game, and to not bother balancing.
Balancing means less money.
Look at the NBA. Three-point line breaks the game? Encourage it!
People pay to see threes and spectacular dunks, not defense! Change the rules!
And they make more money than ever, because people are idiots.
I actually start with save/load states and work backwards from that.
What's a good example of that, in your opinion? Always looking for a new (to me) game!
TOME is probably the classic example. Insane amount of content, but also well done and not designed to just kill you instantly.
For an older example, you could try ADOM. It's pretty hard, often unfairly so, but it's probably the most fun of the "old as shit" roguelike catalogue.
I've also been looking into one called Quasimorph, but I haven't actually played it yet for lack of time.
