I was a Sony guy for a long time so never played Halo but I knew it was a popular game and saw a lot of dudes playing it. When I saw the trailer for the series and they made sure to prominently show women I remember thinking “ok, this will be like every other adaptation”. Didn’t they say they didn’t want to follow the video game?
Yes, I think they said they didn't play the games at all because they didn't want to be influenced by them.
Gotta love modern day adaptations. Peter Jackson says “I want to put Tolkien’s vision on the screen, not my own” but now you get morons who don’t even bother with the source material.
Then of course the WOT moron says he is a feminist and lgbt representation is important. Main character kills his wife. Make it make sense
The Jackson movies aren't perfect but they are the best we're going to get for at least another century. He approached it how people should approach adaptations: how to adapt a story from one medium to another. Going from a literary medium to a visual/audio medium.
The "oh boy now we can stuff this with diversity cookies to reach arbitrary quotas and add our snide little dialogue" approach is just taking the Mona Lisa and spray painting all over it.
Imo, Jackson did an amazing job. Was it perfectly true to the books? No.
But that's always going to be true, for a lot of reasons.
His version is a good example of when that phrase is true. I only just recently started the books, and the entire opening is a great example of it. There's dialogue that gets moved around, chronology that gets changed a bit and scenes added and subtracted but every one of them is aiming to communicate what took Tolkein 3 pages to exposit abstractly.
Now when people say "it has to be changed a little" they mean "we combined these two characters and deleted three plot lines so the whole no longer makes sense because hiring 2 actors is too expensive" (see Harry potter) or they mean some modern audiences bullshit
Agreed
What's funny is that if they played any of the games they'd know that of the main human characters who aren't the empty self-insert MC its basically two women and a black guy. And people loved them (well until 4 on fucked Cortana up).
Literally a game that comes with its own pre-built diverse cast, but they just assumed it didn't because its a video game so they created their own worse versions.
Was funny as shit, as Keyes, who's been raced swaped, looks like Johnson now lmao
It seems that even if the source material or original already has diversity, it isn’t enough diversity
Generally, they just assume if the target audience is bad thinkers (gamers, nerds, white guys, weebs, comic book readers) then the material must not have been diverse (since those guys would never consume anything that is), and then they just go about shoving in their OC new diversity.
Not like those that made the show had played it either. They'd not BTW.
That seems to be the thing now. Get hired to adapt something but never bother to learn the source material
They cheered that as a superior qualification in Acolyte
I know a new network they can broadcast it on, my ass after they kiss it.
We can't show it on your ass, it has a hole and a huge crack in it.
Are you talking about my ass or the script?
I drop a season worth of halo every morning while reading kia2 on the throne.
Oh no!
On the other hand, the trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice dropped, and ... it actually looks like something worth the 30 year wait ... and those who made it saw the cartoon as well.
I wonder why Alec Baldwin isn't in the sequel? (Not really.)
I'm surprised they didn't bring back Jeffrey Jones.
Trying to fuck a 14 year old boy is tame for Hollywood, so its not like they have morals.
First reaction: Him too? Then I remembered it's the 21st century.
Anyway, I really only care about Lydia's character, and Beetlejuice himself, being in it. The dead couple could've moved on, and that crazy-ass mom of Lydia probably sculpted something big and hideous that killed both her and the dad by collapsing on them.
I believe this one is set to take place literally right after his character died, so its deliberately set up to shit on him and them excluding him. Which he is a pedo and a homo which would be warranted but again, its Hollywood, so it feels hugely hypocritical and more of a virtue signal over moral.
Also I'd rather keep the human characters, sans the mom, as they keep it on the line between horror and comedy. Once they are gone you end up with the TV show which is pure wacky nonsense.
'Halo: Master Cheeks.'
wasn't Canon anyway
