I was a Sony guy for a long time so never played Halo but I knew it was a popular game and saw a lot of dudes playing it. When I saw the trailer for the series and they made sure to prominently show women I remember thinking “ok, this will be like every other adaptation”. Didn’t they say they didn’t want to follow the video game?
Yes, I think they said they didn't play the games at all because they didn't want to be influenced by them.
Gotta love modern day adaptations. Peter Jackson says “I want to put Tolkien’s vision on the screen, not my own” but now you get morons who don’t even bother with the source material.
Then of course the WOT moron says he is a feminist and lgbt representation is important. Main character kills his wife. Make it make sense
The Jackson movies aren't perfect but they are the best we're going to get for at least another century. He approached it how people should approach adaptations: how to adapt a story from one medium to another. Going from a literary medium to a visual/audio medium.
The "oh boy now we can stuff this with diversity cookies to reach arbitrary quotas and add our snide little dialogue" approach is just taking the Mona Lisa and spray painting all over it.
Imo, Jackson did an amazing job. Was it perfectly true to the books? No.
But that's always going to be true, for a lot of reasons.
Agreed
What's funny is that if they played any of the games they'd know that of the main human characters who aren't the empty self-insert MC its basically two women and a black guy. And people loved them (well until 4 on fucked Cortana up).
Literally a game that comes with its own pre-built diverse cast, but they just assumed it didn't because its a video game so they created their own worse versions.
Was funny as shit, as Keyes, who's been raced swaped, looks like Johnson now lmao
It seems that even if the source material or original already has diversity, it isn’t enough diversity
Generally, they just assume if the target audience is bad thinkers (gamers, nerds, white guys, weebs, comic book readers) then the material must not have been diverse (since those guys would never consume anything that is), and then they just go about shoving in their OC new diversity.
Not like those that made the show had played it either. They'd not BTW.
That seems to be the thing now. Get hired to adapt something but never bother to learn the source material
They cheered that as a superior qualification in Acolyte
