THIS is why everyone was extremely suspicious of Germany recently changing the punishments for CP possession because no matter what they say it's for, we don't trust authorities with that given that they'll put a higher priority of censoring fictional content to stopping ACTUAL child abuse.

I believe the way to utterly destroy that argument (loli/sho leads to pedophilia) would have to be done scientifically, a psychological experiment that tests the reactions of both convicted child sex offenders and loli/shotacons with various materials, fictional depictions and CSAM/CP. I theorize that most of the pedos would not even touch the fictional material and most of the loli/shos would be repulsed by the CSAM (There's always going to be overlap and outliers when dealing with the mind).
The problem is such an experiment is most likely illegal (though John Money got away with his shit), would probably mess up some of the test subjects and the results subject to relativism. Also the science field is so compromised it would just result it the subjects' identities being leaked, so it can't be conducted in the current environment.
It doesn't matter if you do it scientifically, because the people arguing about it aren't doing it with logic. Their reaction to it is purely emotional, and all "reasons" are then worked backwards from there to make it not seem so.
Its why the "legality" of it in the US always falls back to obscenity laws. Which are always defined as "I know it when I see it" and then fail every single time they reach the Supreme Court to get properly defined. Because its an entirely emotional debate for people unable to separate their rightful disgust from legality.
What makes it a problem is that they are so in a rush to hurt baddie bad people, like the pedos they imagine consuming it, that they fail to consider the consequences of their actions and how the Sword they craft will be used to cut them down just as quick as the evils they forged it for.
If Germany as a nation and as a rulership gets harassed for letting real pedophiles go freely raping children left right and center, because the rapists are the right religion or race to be untouchable by the law, well, they have a problem.
