The way this dog's mere image has touched millions of people's lives is really something. It makes me think about "beauty". Not like the dog is "beautiful" the way we think of when we say the word "beauty", but clearly there was something about its appearance that elicites something inside of people.
But you and I can make funny faces, and it is not the same. Can we meaningfully describe the reason why so many people loved this one funny face in particular?

My childhood dog lived to 17, and after 15 or so it was hard to get him groomed because places would turn down elderly dogs for some reason. The funny thing is he had a terrible diet since I fed him everything except chocolate, and he even got into that a few times. He was very well taken care of otherwise, but now I'm skeptical of claims that human food is bad for them and not just their manners.

No. YOU don't care. Multiple orders of magnitude more people care about Kabosu's death than your ramblings (or anything any of us post here, or anywhere). Doge was one of the most well known memes in the world - basically, a celebrity died. Only this celebrity solely made people happy, had no political hot takes, didn't have any sordid events in her past, and was just a cute dog. So, in every conceivable way, better than an actual celebrity.
