Pretty much any musician has taken inspiration from somewhere. Full disclosure: I love Elvis’s music and have everything by him and am planning to visit Graceland. To me if you were to say you invented something or didn’t give credit where it’s due then that is stealing. Elvis frequently talked about his influences from black and white musicians. His first two songs were a cover of a blues song and a bluegrass song.

By this logic Howlin Wolf and Mississippi John Hurt “stole” music because they were greatly influenced by Jimmie Rodgers. Or how many rap songs sampled past music?

The guitar is a purely European invention, the lyre dates to Mesopotamia, the modern “band” of 3-5 members is based on minstrel bands. The “field hollers” are even considered to be Islamic in origin.

Yep. Difference in inventing a style and innovating. Hendrix was an awesome guitarist but he didn’t invent rock or the guitar. I didn’t know field hollers were Islamic. Thought they were something slaves did

Islam and black African slavery has been a thing since the ~800s so a good amount of the war slaves sold transatlantic were either former Muslim slaves or were captured by Muslims. Some historians have noted some of the rhythms are almost direct translations of the Islamic prayer music, which in turn is directly taken from Christian hymnals.

Very interesting. Thanks. I didn’t even know about Islamic slavery and was only vaguely aware of African slavery before reading Sowell. I’d love a legit documentary mini series going over non western slavery

I mean that would realistically just be world history in general. That’s another reason Slavic (slave) history gets repressed so much by leftists. The entire cultural history is being conquered and enslaved by surrounding empires (mongols, Khazars, Greeks, Roman’s, Germans, varangians/vikings, Islam, etc). The black slavery experience in the US was not unique and was vastly more tame than the black slaves sent to the Caliphate. The main difference is Islam castrated, or bred out their slaves, so there is no slave descendants to complain. If African/ Middle Eastern slavery was the same as the US there would be over 120 million European slave descendants in North Africa.

True. I guess I meant since living in the west you have people who honestly think slavery is an American or British invention. It would be interesting to see such a series so at least some people can get some perspective. Granted if the western world simply said it happened move on. That would be helpful too

Or how many rap songs smoke past music?

Oh, is that what they are always talking about smoking? I totally misunderstood the slang obviously.

Yeah autocorrect does some crazy things. I'd guess that's why we are in a discussion about some guy named Parsley too.

Elvis Parsley was a racist who stole from black people.

Yup, he stole everything from Tyrone Coriander.

Elvis is a great litmus test to tell if somebody is a stupid faggot or not. Bring him up in conversation and brainwashed nog worshipping soyboys will have a pavlovian response about how he had no talent and was just a lame White boy repackaging the cool Black people music to keep it safe for honkies.

See also: Bill Burr's wife. That was exactly the response she had in one of his bits.

Rock and roll was originally a black genre of music that derived from other music developed by black artists (jazz, blues, etc.). Then white people started making rock and roll too and black people less, to the point where Jimmy Hendrix stuck out for being a black dude that did rock and roll. Nowadays almost no black musicians perform rock.

Buuuuuut unless Elvis actually plagiarized, it's not stealing. But it's no secret who he was inspired by, to the point where Eminem (another white guy who got popular making music that's a "black" genre) makes a joke about it in one of his songs.

If you want to read some real entertainment, check out how bitter black people are over East Asians making rap or hip hop music.

other music developed by black artists (jazz, blues, etc.)

This myth just needs to fucking die already. Blues came from Celtic folk music and jazz isn't music. You can make Jazz by hooking up a random number generator to a midi input. Niggers stole everything they have from the south, with one exception: Okra.

Jelly Roll Morton easily passed as white and old jazz was just repackaged John Philip Sousa marches.

Blues came from Celtic folk music

That's the point, everything goes back to something else eventually. Claiming a certain type of music is "theirs" is nonsense, but apparently a lot of people are pissy to hear that.
