Yep. Difference in inventing a style and innovating. Hendrix was an awesome guitarist but he didn’t invent rock or the guitar. I didn’t know field hollers were Islamic. Thought they were something slaves did
Islam and black African slavery has been a thing since the ~800s so a good amount of the war slaves sold transatlantic were either former Muslim slaves or were captured by Muslims. Some historians have noted some of the rhythms are almost direct translations of the Islamic prayer music, which in turn is directly taken from Christian hymnals.
Very interesting. Thanks. I didn’t even know about Islamic slavery and was only vaguely aware of African slavery before reading Sowell. I’d love a legit documentary mini series going over non western slavery
I mean that would realistically just be world history in general. That’s another reason Slavic (slave) history gets repressed so much by leftists. The entire cultural history is being conquered and enslaved by surrounding empires (mongols, Khazars, Greeks, Roman’s, Germans, varangians/vikings, Islam, etc). The black slavery experience in the US was not unique and was vastly more tame than the black slaves sent to the Caliphate. The main difference is Islam castrated, or bred out their slaves, so there is no slave descendants to complain. If African/ Middle Eastern slavery was the same as the US there would be over 120 million European slave descendants in North Africa.
True. I guess I meant since living in the west you have people who honestly think slavery is an American or British invention. It would be interesting to see such a series so at least some people can get some perspective. Granted if the western world simply said it happened move on. That would be helpful too
