Scrabble makes ‘woke’ change to entice more Gen Z players. (www.news.com.au)

This reeks of desperation. I would assume that Scrabble sales have been down for a while, so a change has been prescibed to try and salvage the situation. Making the game social rather than competitive may boost appeal, but it hard to market a word game to the illiterate.

No one is being hit harder by the collapse of the education system than Scrabble.

Scrabble just added FOLX and ARO to their official dictionary.

Woke.

I don't see anything in the article that actually makes it woke, they just tried to make a version if the game that's more cooperative.

"The flip side of the classic game, called Scrabble Together, will include helper cards, use a simpler scoring system, be quicker to play and allow people to play in teams.

"The makers of Scrabble found that younger people, Gen Z people, don’t quite like the competitive nature of Scrabble,” Gyles Brandreth, who co-hosts the language podcast Something Rhymes With Purple, told BBC Radio 4 Today.

"They want a game where you can simply enjoy language, words, being together and having fun creating words.

The same people that go full autist at their video games and kick my face in while flaunting all the stupid microtransaction bullshit on me can't handle a game in my arena, eh? It's really simple, you just have to learn some words.

Imagine how many of the words they use that aren't in the dictionary. Imagine them being challenged over and over again and told these aren't real words by their mocking relatives.

Which dictionary though? Current Year dictionaries are trying their hardest to subvert English because to not allow every flash in the pan slang word to come out of a mentally retarded athlete's mouth would be terribly, terribly racist.

The weird thing is how many borderline illiterate mouthbreathers go to college where they're taught a bunch of jargon they don't understand by people who don't understand it either but learn how to regirgitate it like a chatbot.

Buy up all the old board games you can and save them, alongside old media, for the next generations.

I wonder if the next generations will even be interested. My mom got my niece a board game and she made a nasty comment about it. It's hard to compete the screens they've been exposed to since before they could walk.

It's up to parents to raise them right.

I just force them to play. 99% of the time they'll bitch at first that they don't want to play, then get into it, then will ask to play again by the end. Same with older books, movies, video games, etc.

Kids are dumb, parent accordingly.

Exactly. I've played board and card games with my nephews. If you let them, they'd stay on phones and tablets and the like 24/7. They aren't given that option.

I'm buying (and proxying) all of the content for Lord of the Rings:LCG

Not only it's a great game, it will be probably the last time we will get lore accurate illustrations for Middle Earth...

For the first time in 75 years, Mattel is making a major change to the iconic board game Scrabble — and touting a “No More Scoring” gameplay option. The new launch is a double-sided version of the famous board game — one side with the original game for those who want to stick to the long-time traditional version, and one side with a “less competitive” version to appeal to Gen Z gamers, the New York Post reports. The flip side of the classic game, called Scrabble Together, will include helper cards, use a simpler scoring system, be quicker to play and allow people to play in teams. “The makers of Scrabble found that younger people, Gen Z people, don’t quite like the competitive nature of Scrabble,” Gyles Brandreth, who co-hosts the language podcast Something Rhymes With Purple, told BBC Radio 4 Today. “They want a game where you can simply enjoy language, words, being together and having fun creating words.”

"Words with Friends" but as a board game seems like a pretty dumb juncture for Scrabble itself to go down, but I can't say I'm all that surprised...

Every woke Zoomer chick I know absolutely loves that sort of shit, presumably because it allows them to be able to appear "smort" with minimal actual effort or knowledge...

I'm in favor of woke Scrabble so the next time I get the letters QZZXFKJ I can put it down as a new pronoun I just made up.

Yes but you don't get the face value points you just get to play a card from your hand like 'complete 7 letter word'

I bought this version a week ago (didn't know it was created to be more 'inclusive')

It's not bad for people who want to play solo or want to teach children how to play (it's no contest playing against little children and the cards give objectives to the team, so you can play normally and then help kids with their tiles).

Can't imagine playing like that with other adults tho...

I would definitely believe that they found Gen Z'ers, or even Gen "Alpha" not liking the game. They're getting old enough now that I end up dealing with their kind in my hobbies and they're not any more "based" than Millennials are. They have their own host of problems.
