Okay, so my wait 90 days before buying theory still holds true for new games.
I would suggest adopting the same policy. The game will still be there when you get to it. But as it happens, it might not be the same game you thought it'd be.
The game will be on sale at some point for certain, they are doing well now, but they all eventually are 20-50% off on a steam sale.
I told my friends I didn't want to play Palworld, its still early access, lets see if they finish the game, or I'll buy it on sale for 50% off in a few months, but one of them gifted me the game. I appreciate it of course, but in the vein of "wait 90 days before buying" I have been fully done with paying for early access games for years now and do not want to give companies money for that anymore either.
Let's see if they actually finish the game first before giving them money maybe? They got plenty from all the normies already(applicable here in Tekken's case too).
I made one exception to not buying EA: Hardspace Shipbreaker. And damn, it was fun in EA. But the money ran out, they applied a bunch of fixes that made everything worse, replaced the text-based ghost story with a poorly acted nigger woman unionization story, and slapped a 1.0 on it. I didn't think I could get mad about video games anymore, but I was wrong.
I loved the game in EA, hated the story in the final release. What the fuck were they thinking? It felt like that sorta coworker who just keeps talking about his personal life, fuck right off with that imho. Gameplay was still fun but got old quickly since you barely had any new ships, mechanics didn't get much more difficult and not too big of an upgrade system(could've had more stuff at least imho).
I'll be honest some games are great in EA, I liked Divinity Original Sin 2, I liked (still like) Valheim, I played ARK when it was new and EA in the past, but more and more companies started taking advantage of it and I just can't agree with it anymore, even if I like the company.
I'm big on the no pre-orders no early access type of purchasing now.
Bro my policy is to just wait several years at this point and it's been fantastic. Not only do I get to filter down to just the quality games, but they all come bundled with whatever DLCs they've got and it's all on sale for 50% off + whatever base price drop has happened in the interim. Oh and all the mods are finally out and stabilized too, so anything that's actually wrong with the game has been corrected and vetted by the player base.
Why wouldn't you wait for games to age a bit at this point?
Yeah, waiting for a complete version is usually the best option. Not only will it not get patched a lot and change, maybe even fundamentally, but you'll get the most game for the least money.
You know, this combined with samey feeling games is what caused the first video game crash. And for the first time it awhile, it looks like we're heading for it. Maybe a video game system wide reset is needed.
Used to be that any "post-release roadmap" discussions would be about what other games the studio was developing and planning to release in the future.
I was just looking at Doom Eternal on Steam because it's on sale.
There are like 4 different "editions" at significantly different prices. I don't really know what's different between them.
Expansions/DLC are one thing and I'm not opposed to them. But different editions of the same game mean I have to do research as to exactly what I'm buying/missing. And fuck that. I see multiple editions, it means I won't be buying any of them.
If you're looking for more of Doom 2016 I would suggest skipping Doom Eternal. I got burned by that one, it doesn't play the same. Then I glitched through a floor and rage quit the whole thing and didn't look back.
THANK YOU! Finally see someone say it. I cannot for the life of me explain why people like Eternal as much. 2016 was amazing, the way to revive and old franchise and Eternal was to kick it back into the grave. Yet, everyone kept praising it. I was unsure if I was the crazy one or everyone else.
Eternal feels like someone somehow made an entire gameplay loop out of just the shitty parts of games. It's all artificial ammo starvation, leveling, and loot hunting strung together by quick time events with ridiculous forced camera shake. It feels less like I'm playing a game and more like I'm playing a bunch of bad cut scenes and annoying side quests.
All I wanted was more levels to play through and they couldn't even manage that. It was such a disappointment after such a strong showing in the previous installment.
To each his own, I suppose. I can’t go back to 2016 because it just seems too slow and clunky now. It did do a lot of things better than Eternal though, hopefully the third one will be a middle ground between the two. Or just play Project Brutality, that’s the best of both worlds.
Tekken 8 is a night and day improvement over the predatory mtx from 7.
I mean, they fuckin charged you for a functional practice mode in 7 with frame data. It is all baseline in 8 including a full replay system which saves not only your matches but high level ones too to learn from.
The game is fully featured for any level of player and any type of player.
The matchmaking and servers have worked flawlessly since day 1.
I don't really care if they charge for cosmetics or new characters because the base game is packed especially compared to how nickel and dimed we got in 7. Plus I probably won't buy them.
The real question is are they gonna xim xer leo this time around or give her tits like in ttt2
That said, Tekken 8 is currently beating the crap out of SF6 in every area so if they keep it up and don’t become Capcom they still have my vote.
They're competing for different player bases though. 3D fighters and 2D fighters are wildly different experiences and even on the tournament circuit where those dudes play everything that comes out it's rare to see players who cross over between the two arenas.
I haven't been following the SF tournament scene so I couldn't say.
I've drifted towards Guilty Gear Xrd ever since that got retrofitted with rollback netcode. It just lets me go ham in a way that I don't get elsewhere. That and getting burned by two bad street fighters in a row has really left me with a disdain for Capcom.
Makes me appreciate Granblue Relink even more, it already had an additional content roadmap where they've confirmed what's coming as free content, but not what might be coming as paid content, yet even the free content is looking pretty nice: an ultimate quest in March, two new playable characters in April, no details yet for May, but there will be more coming.
This was obvious from the start, I mean why else add the mii ripoff hub style.
Man the modern world really want to brainwash you in anyway. Corpo gasligthing is always fun.
Pay moar!!!! I’d rather spend $80-100 per game than $70 for something that has more micro transactions than free games
Hehe, The only offer they accept is buying out the entire company.
Why play and earn cosmetics when you can just swipe to get Black Panther King in Purple Velvet PIMP suit right now and the gold chains are included!
Too bad, you pay $100 per game for always online with microtransactions.

"space corporation bad"
do you have any idea how many people i'd kill to have that job? i don't care if the corporation is evil.

I miss those days.

And especially fuck "season passes" as well.

Doom Eternal isn’t even close to as good as 2016.
THANK YOU! Finally see someone say it. I cannot for the life of me explain why people like Eternal as much. 2016 was amazing, the way to revive and old franchise and Eternal was to kick it back into the grave. Yet, everyone kept praising it. I was unsure if I was the crazy one or everyone else.

Shift the overton window so far that getting fucked in the ass feels hetero?
You don't say.

Tekken Tag 2 is still the best Tekken.
I'm inclined to agree too; it was a real love letter to the franchise.
The rest of the fanbase doesn't think too highly of it, and I never quite understood why.
I don't let it affect my own enjoyment of the game, though.
Cosmetic micro transactions doesn't even move the needle for me in terms of caring.

I would be all over relink if it wasn’t an insufferable anime game for children.
