Yeah that is playing by their rules. They only hate when it's white people dressing up as other groups. Trying to say "Actually I'm not white I'm 5% native american, black, etc" is still avoiding the point that they want to attack you based on your identity no matter what.
It's even worse than that. There is entire cottage industry of white people claiming to have native American ancestry in order to get tribal benefits (from tax-exempt casinos).
There's also a cottage industry of tribal councils trying to find any excuse to kick people out of tribal citizenship so that they don't have to share casino revenue/federal aid with them.
I used to work with a guy that was seriously cosplaying as an Native American. He was deadly serious about people believing him to the point where he was constantly dragging people to HR if they so much as rolled their eyes.
Beads, feather (stop laughing), long black hair (dyed - dude we can see the blonde roots), spray on tan, contrived accent and speech cadence.

It really disturbs me that there are people who wake up, see something like this and instinctively seek to ruin someone's life over it. I find it funny that the logical implication of constantly policing "cultural appropriation" is these groups are so pathetic you can't encroach on the few positive aspects of their existence. The reality is gay race communists just hate white people and want to ruin them.
