It's even worse than that. There is entire cottage industry of white people claiming to have native American ancestry in order to get tribal benefits (from tax-exempt casinos).

There's also a cottage industry of tribal councils trying to find any excuse to kick people out of tribal citizenship so that they don't have to share casino revenue/federal aid with them.
