That. Is. Absolutely. Absurd.
That is all.
Not Somalia’s flag, but the flag of one of the states inside Somalia.
Ugly and boring either way.
Closer to Sierra Leone if anything
It also references the troon flag with the stripes and angle cut on the side. It's shit on multiple levels.
Fucking what.
Ok - let's play devil's advocate and say that this isn't an attempt at a Somali flag at all...
Why the same color shades as the Somali flag? Why is there an islamic star there?
How does ANY of this invoke Minnesota?
The old flag said "Star of the North" in French, so a star must be something they associate with their state.
....does it? I may just be retarded but I don't get it.
So pathetic. Shouldn’t the ones from Somalia be thanking their lucky stars that they live in America? Decades of America bashing produced this. Whenever I hear people going down the list of all the sins in american history I simply say it has been rehashed over and over so why don’t you look at the history of other countries
At least when the flags get replaced we will know who truly owns a conquered area.
Why did they even replace it? The display of manual labor? The existence of an Indian tribe?
Because a good flag doesn't have detailed images and writing on it?
Say what you will about what they chose to replace it with, but the old one had pretty objective problems.
Because putting your seal on a blue flag is the laziest "flag" design and way too many states use it. There's a reason why flags like Texas's are instantly recognizable, and half the rest of the states the average person wouldn't be able to get in 10 guesses.
The flag of Texas and somewhere else... was it Puerto Rico? Look exactly the same except that one is more square.
The existing flag has a farmer with a gun nearby and an Indian riding his horse into the sunset. This new design will obviously please Indians since they've always wanted to be represented by Somalia.
Minnesomalia is good.
Personally, I like Snowgadishu.
Just going to point out that as far as I know, the working design for Minnesota's new flag is this: https://s.yimg.com/ny/api/res/1.2/z8e9yi49_cJMzYtywR32JQ--/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTEyNDI7aD02OTk-/https://media.zenfs.com/en/aol_fox_aggregated_articles_807/666b5c77ce0e7017e0c77f53fe107d63
Not the one in the twitter post.
Wait, which flag is Minnesota now?
You guys are reaching on this one. Resemblance to the Somalian flag is tenuous at best, and it is an objectively much better flag than the mess it was before.
State colors happening to match the state colors of a state within a foreign country is not evidence of conspiracy.
It's suspicious because half the people there are Somalis trying to turn it into Somaliland. Otherwise, no a coincidence wouldn't be.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Puntland
a star on blue ain't that bad.
Yes there's a superficial similarity, but it's basic ground green, blue sky stuff. And blue for NE/USA state. There's not much wriggle room with that basic motif.
It's 200x better than that modern-art abomination duck motif, and better than a seal you can't read or distinguish from 20 other states.
I do think this one woulda looked much the same even without the somalian imports, it's a safe basic flag motif with a star which makes sense for where they are.
90% of basic flag designs for Minnesota are gunna look somewhat like this
There was nothing wrong with their flag, don't try to justify this nonsense.
If you think that "state seal on a blue flag" is a good flag, you have no idea what a good flag is.
Old flag was awful. Flag needs to be recognizable at a distance. Writing and detailed pictures are objective problems with a flag.
what's the purpose of a flag?
Whatever bullshit answer you're going to give, the flag didn't need to be changed. It's more recognizable than this generic shit that looks like every other flag redesign out there. It's so generic you can pretend it doesn't look exactly like thr Somalian flag.
Really? At a distance it's indistinguishable from half the states in the union's flags.
So change it to something equally as generic that looks like a foreign flag because of muh natives?
Ok
I didn't say that. I have no strong feelings one way or the other about the new flag. The old flag had glaring issues, in terms of legibility at a distance, and memorability, and replacing it was a reasonable thing to do.
Honestly, the only distinctive thing is that It looks like a fucking baseball.
The new flag you might object to, but it has several strong features as a flag, and from a Vexology perspective the inverted chevron is actually quite distinct.
The state seal on a blue background is an objectively shit flag. If you disagree, I guarantee you have never made anything.
Bitch, it's been the flag since 1893 with slight revisions and they're only changing it because of "MuH NaTiVeS" this has nothing to do with appearances.
Ok, then they're right for the wrong reason. You can abandon truth for politics if you want, I'll keep telling it like it is.
Oh yeah generic flag #1037291 that looks like every other flag revision is soooo much more recognizable you fucking mung.
Here's a collection of state flags: https://i.imgur.com/4Iy4PJ6.png
I'm sure since you're not a "fucking mung" you can recognize all of them, right?
