Short form internet content is essentially candy for your brain. Best if you consume none of it, acceptable in small doses, ruins your life when consumed in excess. You can actually feel yourself developing ADD while you watch that shit. No surprise that younger generations require prescription drugs to fix their brains enough to function in our society.
It's the worst when it's algorithmic and autoplaying. Short videos by themselves are fine, but when they just keep playing and your brain goes into autopilot it's basically putting you into a trance state.
Tiktok is literally a CCP propaganda tool. So, of course YouTube wanted something like that for their own propaganda.
I fucking loathe modern YouTube, it's borderline unusable. The search tab is broken. The recomendations are useless and you have to constantly curate them. Subscription tab is broken too, you get subbed/unsubbed randomly. Notifications are useless: sometimes you won't get notified when a channel you are subscribed to uploads a video but you get notified of random suggestions or posts. Copyright system is broken. Strike system is broken. They got rid of the yellow markers for ads. Deleted/privated videos won't show anymore and it won't tell you why they were removed. But at least we got ambient light, am I right?
I’d go so far as to call it a straight-up weapon. There isn’t really a coherent singular message on the platform, although degeneracy is obviously prevalent. Rather, the structure and mechanics of the platform itself are legitimately deleterious to child development. They are wrecking our kids.
But, now you can hardly even control what's on your recommended
I will say, I think it is possible to not see globohomo stuff as often. Though I believe it requires autistic-level interest in something (or maybe multiple things) that doesn't have a large audience overlap with unwanted content. Or, I might guess, you may need to avoid allowing videos in your watch history that feature current events or discussion of modern culture.
I hardly get recommended normal videos anymore. It's either something I've already watched or a playlist.
That is a pretty sucky thing these days. It is apparent they're trying to fish out things you really like and then keep you watching more stuff based on what they think you might like from there.
the worst part of it all is that there is nothing we can do about it. Negligent parents will continue shoving tablets and smartphones into the faces of literal toddlers
This is obviously the biggest problem. There are at least people trying to set up alternative platforms for content, but it isn't going to fix children getting addicted to audio-visual candy.
I agree with you, I never get fed liberal nonsense on YouTube but I've crafted my algo over the last 10 years. When I say not interested I never see those videos again. I actually like YouTube a lot now. They changed their algo and now I get smaller channels recommended that turn out great.
Idk if its my autism that caused this or maybe google purposely feeds some people this shit because it knows if it keeps doing it it will break the person or something. /shrug. I get based stuff recommended to me all the time on my YouTube.
This probably is a disaster though given most Normies aren't as autistic about dialing in the algo as I was back in the day.
Even when I click "not interested", these channels still pop up.
You clearly aren't being enough of a racist.
Racism is the new piracy. If you want content that isn't completely globo-homo, you need to be actively racist.
I intentionally follow multiple racist channels (Progressive rags will tell you which ones are good) just so I don't get garbage, then I subscribe to neutral stuff that I want to watch.
The only problem I have now are their stupid promoted banners.
I see kids shotgunning these videos by the dozens and it’s all the most inane bullshit. The same aesthetic, the same music, the same shitty kinetic text technique.
That shit will never not annoy me. It's super-distracting but I guess if someone's attention span is the same as a hyperactive puppy, you need something like that to get your 15 second message across.
I've seen examples of it used well but they're the exception and not the rule unfortunately.
It promotes an unhealthy short attention span and that's why it feels like some massive tragedy gets forgotten in a week. 9/11 with the current attention span would barely last a month in public consciousness with this attention span, it's that bad.
The entire point is to socially engineer a generation with a 15-second attention span that cares only about Current Thing as reported by their magic screen.
You understand the purpose when you click the "X" on the dismissable shorts panel and the message goes "We'll hide this for 30 days" instead of "Okay, we'll never show this again."
I find youtubers in general to be one of the worst things to happen to the internet. Actually, to better clarify. YouTubers that constantly complain about YouTube rules and regulations and continue using the platform. It’s almost as if they have no dignity.
They dont even show up for me on youtube, if I still use it with their constant nagging about adblockers. Usually just use Freetube where I dont even need an account, I just cant comment and upvote thats the only downsite but I got all my subscriptions and they cant even collect the data.
I used to call short form video anything under 4 minutes...
I still tell YouTube to block anything under 1 and generally only watch stuff that is 10 or more minutes.
I'll admit I watch an hour or two of shorts every week. Usually in 10-15 minute increments when I need to kill some time.
I don't see any leftist crap tbh. Just tap "don't recommend this channel" or whatever and you should never see that channel again. The YouTube comments I see are mostly based as well.

Well youtube shorts basically only works that way. it's supposed to be tiktok or whatever.
The shorts from creators I like are fine. A lot of em are previews for their longer videos. So what?
Block YouTube shorts with a browser extension for YouTube and avoid all these problems.

China doesn't even have TikTok, they have a more curated version called Douyin. Teens are discouraged from using TikTok in China

Short form content is fine when its just jokes. When it starts going beyond comedy is when it starts running into massive issues imho.
I used to call short form video anything under 4 minutes... I still tell YouTube to block anything under 1 and generally only watch stuff that is 10 or more minutes.
Most youtube videos could be short form regular videos instead of dragging out mundane info to get ad cash.
I use this extension and have been blissfully unaware of shorts for a while now.

If I ever watch shorts (rarely) it's only cats or other animal videos.
Yeah that's much of my feed as well. I like watching farm videos and whatnot that feature dogs and other animals lol
Op, please note not to create more than 5 posts within a 24 hour time period.
YouTube Revanced on mobile. SmartTubeNext on TV. Disable fuckin shorts and ads. YouTube is watchable again.
The day I'll no longer have those options will be the day I stop watching YouTube.
