Almost all critics are trying to bury this movie because it is right-wing and Christian (all the other left-wing anti-Christian movies were never a problem though).
The movie is a cheap production, all the major plot revolves around two guys chatting in a room, but the dialog is really well written and both actors are doing a great performance.
It is also very different from modern horror movies, it does not contain jumpscares and shaky cameras. It would probably be better classified as a psychological thriller.
Even if you are not religious but have some interest in Christian lore you will probably enjoy it.

I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to. Good performances.
My one complaint with the movie (from a film/storytelling standpoint) is that it would have been a better film if it ended a scene earlier, but because of who it is marketed to they have to add a final scene to soften tone of the movie. It also had one or two points that I thought were theologically inaccurate, but it was otherwise a pretty decent movie.
yeah, I do agree, the Glenn Beck cameo was unnecessary.
Glenn Beck was one of the financiers and his network is the one the writer is on, if anything that cameo doubled their ticket sale’s because it’s an official stamp of approval for the message and a guarantee the movie isn’t woke dribble

I don't recall specifically. Something about the nature/person of God and/or the power/role/creation of angels/demons probably.
I think the movie is based on thomistic interpretation of Lucifer's revolt wich is very interesting, but some protestants may not find it completely "biblical." Some calvinists may even disagree entirely.
At your recommendation I just watched it, and it was indeed enjoyable. Great, great performance by the prisoner on death row. Some slightly cringe Atheist vs. Christian type of dialogue, but it was more than made up for by the actors.
I saw this movie pop up somewhere before, and I looked at the page and saw Sean Patrick Flanery in it. He's definitely one of my favourites, and the user score is pretty decent. I might check it out. Thanks for the recommendation.

He was one of the leads in Boondock Saints, which is a cult favorite.
I typically like action and cult-classic films like HusbandsLead pointed out.
Apart from Boondock Saints, I absolutely adored Sinners & Saints with Johnny Strong and Sean Patrick Flanery. It's like a low-budget version of Lethal Weapon, but the lead isn't some broken down lunatic, but an absolutely badass lethal weapon. Bas Rutten, Kim Koates, and Coastas Mandylor are also in it.
Suicide Kings is another film that's very interesting. Takes a lot of twists and turns, and I thought it was pretty neat. Has an all-star cast of a lot of familiar faces when they were young, including Christopher Walken, Dennis Leary, Jeremy Sisto, and Jay Mohr.
He had a small role in Stallone's Eye See You, which was okay, but he was also in the short lived UPN show The Strip, which was like a newer version of Miami Vice set in Las Vegas.
He's been in a ton of stuff, a lot of it is not great, but for the good stuff he's been in (like the Boondock Saints/Sinners & Saints), it definitely stands out.
I liked it. More of a play than a movie but very enjoyable and well acted.

Both hurt and helped for sure!
It helped because it was an intimate conversation between someone who had no theistic faith and a madman who had nothing to prove. That closeness and dialogue let the actors really flesh out the roles they had.
It hurt because once the cracks in reality start to show it swaps the madman out for an unquantifiable truth and the otherwise reliable observable universe of the psychiatrist becomes a farce a joke without a punchline.
The ending could have been tighter but productions always have people wanting their own input on things and so overall it didn't take away from the main body of the story.
I've read similar stories before and so the concept isn't new, but the movie took lots of skilled elements and put them together very well and certainly would have audiences new to the idea enjoying it more than a more casual student film.

Agreed. I'm not the slightest bit religious but it was a genuinely good movie and although it had some Christian centric moments, it's very easy to look beyond them because most of the movie presents its philosophical arguments in religiously neutral ways.

Definitely the best part. The longer version of that scene goes way deeper into things too.
Thought that this was going to be a hard to get movie, but copies of it are everywhere. Hopefully Sound of Freedom gets this wide of a release.
The interrogation scene that was floating around for a bit was one of the best 5 minutes of information ever. Really hard hitting.
