If your looking for a quirky walking simulator, you, might want to check out Metamorphosis
I got bored pretty quick but its not really my type of game.
If your looking for a good game in the 30 clams range, I highly recommend Rimworld, Factorio and Divinity: Original Sin 2 (you don't need to play the first one).
mainly, I'm looking for a cat simulator, but I want something with a little more substance than a short story reworked as a glorified interactive movie, lol.
There's Rain World. You play a slug-cat. It's brutally hard and you don't feel very much like a cat, necessarily, although people who like the game swear by it. I got filtered, maybe I'll go back some day.
There's also the Swery game The Good Life, where you turn into a cat, but by all accounts it doesn't sound very good. IDK though.
I'm kinda looking for a cat simulator...that's what drew me into this, the idea of playing an adorable cat on an adventure (while still being a cat) hooked me pretty hard...I didn't go looking for this mind you, I was looking at an event for stealth games, and the artwork jumped out and made me go "aww" lol.
refund policy
I think they do, but I'm not even sure this game would run on my pc (had to tweak settings to get ark running, it's an intel chipset, lol)

You are the target gay audience. May as well just buy it.
Stray is a shit-tier game that blew up because “awww cat”. You’ve literally said “awww cat” in this thread. They chose the cat aesthetic to sucker in literally you. So do them a favor and buy their terrible game.
Ah, I see. I must be a sucker because I was endeared with something the internet has had a love affair with since the 1.0 days. Nevermind that I had the presence of mind to ask around before wasting my money. I appreciate cats, the creatures so adorable that they actually edge out porn in sheer volume of pictures/videos on the internet, so I must be a sucker? lol, my man, do yourself a favor and stay off 4chan on saturdays.
Cat sims are quite a niche; I guess it might just be worth giving Stray a go. It looks like you can get a refund within two weeks with less than 2 hours of play time.
So if it doesn't run on your system or you don't enjoy it, nothing lost.
It's an 8 - 10 hour cat sim game where you platform around a dystopian environment, It's a neat little game that I enjoyed when it came out. I would pick it up on sale however, it isn't worth $30 bucks.
It also isn't woke, there's a clear art direction with the only people you encounter being robots and not audiologs or the like with gayness from memory.
If you're picking it up for the cat gameplay, I'd grab it for that. There's also difference between playing a game and watching an LP of it.
I just finished this game actually. I'd say the optimal price tag is about 15-20 USD. The gameplay is fairly minimal, but it does have some degree of light action and puzzles.
The main thing for me is that it's rather chill, cute, flows at your own pace, and they did a rather decent job with some of the finer details (animations, audio, just a few little things here and there). It's only something I'd suggest when/if you find yourself just needing something to help you relax with a low-stress experience.
Wokeness-wise, it's probably 3/10 on a wokeness scale imo. Just some really light and generic references to how humans might've mismanaged society sometime before their demise. No global warming references, just a very vague sense of environmental issues that might've been a problem at one time (could be nuclear winter, could be toxic chemicals, it's not specific.) Also references to a "plague" that might've been involved in wiping out humanity.
Essentially, your old-school predictable kinds of explanations as to why humanity's not around anymore.
The Mighty Jingles did a playthrough. Watching an old Royal Navy sailor play a cat sim while his cats tried talking to the cats on screen was hilarious.
Not especially. I got the title for free and I was glad I didn't pay for it. But then I'm very much the kind of person who plays games for the game part of it and not the experience part of it.
yeah, I hear you, that's why I'm disappointed. I like the concept, but I still want something fun and a little bit challenging to play, not somebody's old college thesis short story turned into a "video game," lol
sidenote: right after my previous comment, I heard a cat growling outside my window and had to go check, lol. Didn't see anything, but yeah, weird conincidence.
That's what I've gathered from other comments, lol.
well, if you don't mind pulling up a chair, I've got an adorable story to tell you about a kitten in a pet store, and I swear on all things good and decent this is 100% true...
Went into a petco to get something for my cat at the time, Spatz, and I heard the most pitiable crying meow from where the cat cages where. ended up investigating , and there, in one of the cages was this tiny kitten (couldn't have been much more than when it's safe to take them from their mother), reaching through the bars for me. naturally charmed, I reached up to pet the little thing, and I couldn't make this up if I tried, this adorable little fucker grabbed my hand with both paws and made me pet its little head...I almost bought him(her? I didn't check the plumbing) on the spot, but I already had an adult cat(bringing in a kitten in that sitch can be risky...jealousy, territoriality, etc.), and frankly, with our renting situation, it would have just made our rent go up.
Thankfully, I found out later that the clerk intended to take the little fuzzball home if nobody else adopted it...
I bought it and played a fair bit before I got a new computer, check any notes on better optimization because it didn't run well for me, and I saw several youtuber/streamers with monster rigs have it barely chugging along.
It's fine. Played it on PS plus. You run from headcrabs a lot and generally explore. It really doesn't hold your hand in where to go so it can be a fair challenge. If you enjoy running from combat encounters, finding things to progress, conversing with robots, and being an orange cat, then yeah it's worth it. There are worse ways to waste money.
From what I've seen it's barely a game; more like a walking simulator where you play as a cat.
Worth a Buy did a decent review a while back: https://youtu.be/aqoZWIHtcAc
thank you, anything better you can suggest? not a big deal, just taking a shot int he dark, lol.

lol, afraid I can't help with that. But if you find a good sandbox-survival-catsim let me know. I would unironically play the shit out of that game.
I think “sandbox game” would take on a very different game in a catsim!
lol, I see what you did there.💩
heh...you could always play ark and tame a sabertooth like I suggested in another comment thread, lmao.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/329860/Catlateral_Damage/
There's something coming out for Switch like that.
https://youtu.be/-39kuBXyKWo
There was a direct with a section just for cat games.
ah, okay, lol. my bad.
Not too sure what kind of games you're after.
Does Steam still have a refund policy? If so, maybe give it a shot and see what you think.
Steam refund policy is still 2 hours of playtime or 14 days, as far as I know.

I love the internet...

Well, they're not necessarily house cats, but if that's the idea of what you're looking for I'd recommend checking out
Shelter - you play as a badger trying to protect her cubs on a journey
and
Shelter 2 - as above, but with a Lynx this time.
okay, thank you.

alley cat?
ah, IBM in the eighties... Is it any wonder commodore lasted so long? lol
Kitten aside, though, that's definitely an interesting old dos game, I might check it out, thanks.

It is a walking sim, the gameplay is minimal.
But it looks really good and the cat mechanics work pretty well.
It is the kind of game you can play with a girl.
I wouldn't feel bad paying 30 but 20 would feel better.
Not really. Watch someone play it instead.
The Mighty Jingles did a playthrough. Watching an old Royal Navy sailor play a cat sim while his cats tried talking to the cats on screen was hilarious.
darn...Not gonna lie, that cute face really hooked me...
any suggestions on a better title with a similar theme of playing a cat? Something with a little more meat on the bones?
...I mean I guess I could just tame a sabertooth in ark, but it feels like that wouldn't be the same on a number of levels (no pun intended)
Not especially. I got the title for free and I was glad I didn't pay for it. But then I'm very much the kind of person who plays games for the game part of it and not the experience part of it.

Well imo this isn't remotely challenging. It's cute and engaging for a while, that's about it.
that's what I gathered, lol.
sidenote: right after my previous comment, I heard a cat growling outside my window and had to go check, lol. Didn't see anything, but yeah, weird conincidence.
Seems like a simple cat simulator but I remember some gaming journalist accused of racism
figures.
for or against the game?
Need to know whether to steer clear or buy the game out of spite. (joking)
They were attacking the game. The journalist was upset about something it didn’t showcase. But you should play it. Most gaming journos are nuts
you could remove "gaming" from that statement and it would still be true...
True
I love cats, but I tried watching a let's play on this and it seemed extremely boring.
That's what I've gathered from other comments, lol.

Jesus fucking Christ
your response could be interpreted a number of different ways, could you elaborate? lol.
Reddit became a person.
careful you don't cut yourself on all that edge
I've actually experienced that a few times with both cats and dogs. It's both adorable and a little bewildering at the same time.
The number of people who both fell for “muh cat simulator” and also post here is both shocking and telling.
look at this gotdang canine supremacist over here
lol. How long have you been on the internet?
This isn’t Reddit. We mock your kind here.
Pretty sure I've seen you use the words "pupperino," "puppersons", "doggo," and "snugglepug." You have no power here.
pretty much the only time I went to reddit was for thedonald. What exactly is my 'kind'? lol.
and? If I was afraid of mockery, I wouldn't be on the internet. which leads us back to my previous rhetorical question;
Show us, on the doll, where the cat touched you.
Most girls seem to like it. Unless you are a girl or a cat person, probably not.
Well, I'm on the internet, so obviously I love cats, lmao.
Hell, even 4chan loves cats...

That shit’s for girls
Yeah, gay ones.
