Translation: We can't fight for Autistic rights without sterilizing autistic kids.
What about autistic kids' right to not have their psychological vulnerabilities exploited by a punch of predatory groomers because it's easier to convince them they're the wrong gender?
The usual problem: For actual people who have it like me and just want to be normal people, it is something to get mad over. For the activist, it is just another case where the intersection of causes must be fulfilled.
As for me, I will have nothing to do with this. Because in general, I want nothing to do with the Autism advocacy groups. They are either raging, hardcore Leftist who do raging, hardcore Leftist things, or they act like Autism is a life destroyer in all cases and think that those who are high functioning (like myself) deserve to be treated with the same things as someone who is legitimately unable to care for themselves.
The weirdest part of any of these advocacy groups (deaf, blind, autistic, and other disabilities) is that, because they view it as an identity, they're not advocating for it to get better. They're not advocating for less people with these issues going forward; in fact, that would be a genocide.
If autism advocate groups could cure autism tomorrow...they wouldn't.
I think it is a little bit harder for it to "get better" with Autism since it affects so much of brain function, and I would likely turn down any "cure" (for lack of a better terms) because I have no idea what it would change about me and the way I think at a most basic level. But like I said, it is different with Autism. The Blind and Deaf have no such excuse since theirs are 100% a disability with little to no benefit, unlike Autism where in high-functioning cases you are trading some social skills (which you can learn anyway) for things like improved memory and enhanced attention to detail.
At the same time, you are right about those who especially have low-function Autism, like the kind who can barely even speak. In those cases, I think it would be wise to find a way to if not "cure" them at least raise their function level.
They usually call the benefit being part of the "culture" and that by removing the disability you will become an outcast and eventually lose your "family."
Now, a family that basically threatens you into being crippled or else they will ostracize and abandon you sounds pretty awful to us, but apparently its a super big deal to the Deaf and Blind.
That's why I specified going forward. I'm not talking about curing the autistic, I'm talking about curing autism in future people.
A cure, certainly not, but it may be feasible to research and develop some bandaid fixes that at least alleviate or reduce some of the more debilitating effects.
Or, while a bit controversial, maybe come up with some solid tools for early prenatal detection, and then develop some prenatal treatments that might correct the issues while it's still somewhat doable (on request of the parents of course).
That is of course assuming that ot is genetic, which it may be. There is also the distinct possibility that it is due to exposure to some environmental toxin. It may be combination of both. In which case, removing said toxin from human consumption would be how it would be stopped.
I absolutely agree. Environmental factors, or a combination of those and genetic variables are almost certainly something to consider. I was mostly throwing that out there as just one example of how there's a lot of sound practical reasons to advocate for more investigation and research.
Usually yes. Or at least the ones that make a lot of noise and put up a lot of banners. There are genuine advocacy groups, but they're always drowned out by all the loudmouth lunatics who just want free money and attention.
Only a Sith deals in absolutes!
Wow, as the saying goes...there's a lot to unpack here.
For one thing, the slippery slope of language strikes again. Mental illness/disorder became "neurodivergent." Now apparently even that became "neurodiversity."
And mental illness is something to be proud of now.
Did...did they think this through? There is no [mental illness] without gay shit?
Translation: It's all about the gay trans. You can't have anything if you don't support the gays and trannies. Not even a mental disorder. You get nothing, unless you swear allegiance to the rainbow flag.
Its not as mask off as it seems. These people believe fully in Intersectionality. One of the core tenets of that is that oppression effects all "minorities" (the numerical one definition) and so any attack on one is an attack on them all and must be defended by all of them else they forfeit their benefits/protection from the entire group.
That's why a lot of these gotchas don't phase them. Because their belief system makes sense in their head and you aren't triggering any alarms pointing it out. Its pure tribalism, and all non-white, straight, cis, Christian males (and other modifiers) belong to them.
You don't even get to pick your champions. They claimed you, and your oppression, and now you must obey them or watch and they turn their full wrath upon you. Its pretty sickening to watch, as its almost bullet point cult behavior but on a political global scale.
I thought monkeypox pride would have been more appropriate, but when I said that, they accused me of throwing shit on the wall.
The signs will be very exact for this one.
Lol, you had the best--and most accurate--response by far.
I have relatives with engineering degrees.
I prefer the slogan /pol/ came up with.
Similarly, It's okay to be black. It's okay to be gay. It's okay to be a troon. And yes, it's okay to be Autistic.
none of these things, however, are a point of pride or shame
Pretty autistic
Do we celebrate by drawing trains, planes, and helicopters?
I want to see someone in authority call for an "Incel Pride Day" and then we call enjoy the popcorn while everyone else loses their minds and types in abject fury at the concept.
Before the Frankenstein buzzword abuse in the tweet, weirdos who claim their autism is a mental superpower (barring the 1 in a million savants) almost justify the severe bullying of the pre-Y2K grade schools. Despite my autistically-intense distaste for neurotypical monkey social rituals (at least those who think only in that dimension) and other imitative, boilerplate inanities, not being able to readily process human social behaviors would terrify me.
With the modern spectrum nonsense, it's tricky to know if those who genuinely believe they are clinically autistic are being accurate or honest. Of course, an "introvert spectrum inconvenience" doesn't qualify for disability benefits and peer-pity.
I actually half wonder how often people are misdiagnosed for things like this without any consideration for potentially influential variables.
Like say for instance, if they're on any medication that might be flattening their affect or having other kinds of side effects, or any number of possible socio-psychological circumstances going on in the background.
With children, absolutely there is accidental or negligent misdiagnoses; 3x incidence from birth year 92 to 08 is more than just awareness. With teens and especially adults, there's a bizarre trend to enthusiastically self-diagnose, with the casual criteria overlapping with introverted habits or slight autistic traits. Makes it tricky to differentiate from an actual high-functioning who's well practiced at social rituals.
The spectrum should have been given a different name and separated from the condition. Makes it apparent at first glance who self-diagnosed.
I'm not proud of this.
no it's not
I really like how this is promoting stereotypes about autistic people. /s/
lol its "pride disability month" for july.
