I prefer KDE, sadly. Almost all of the open source software is chock full of wokeness. It’s barely avoidable. Anywhere they can plant one of their leeches they do.

Checkout Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE): It is a fork of 3.5.x (Before KDE went downhill with 4.x and QT4)

Does that mean I can still customize the date format in its config panel to be ISO dates and not fall back to murrican?

Open source means by definition that you aren't gatekeeping out the crazies.

Theo de Raadt proved otherwise: OpenBSD repelled them repeatedly and rejected CoC attempts by having a benevolent dictator for life.

Correct, but what happens when he dies or moves on?

I'm guessing the same thing any other successful gatekeeper dies or moves on. It's not a one-time event where you bolt the door shut and it stays that way forever. The price of freedom is vigilance.

It'll be like Christopher Tolkien dying and his dipshit kid greenlighting things like the Gollum game.

I wish there was like a Wine for the windows UI. Maybe Proton could actually run it. As inconsistent and weird as it is, explorer.exe is still leagues better than any linux UI.

Gnome looks nice but usability is dogshit. KDE is usable but looks like crap.

The other ones are just a mix of dogshit and crap. Developers have to actually be paid to make a good desktop because the important parts are tedious and nobody wants to do that.

They flat out admitted that KDE 6 X11 is "barely buggier" than KDE 5 X11. Had they focused their energy on making a good desktop environment instead of activism, this wouldn't have happened.

This is consistent with their plan to change mouse default from single-click to double-click in Plasma 6 DE; this default means the rest of UI is better tested and designed. Just like it's feminine to orient towards the subjective over the objective (lifestyle activism as seen in the photo), it's also not masculine to compromise product/service to appease the lowest common denominator or the loudest complainers. Individual Yelp reviews are not inherently valid, and a business can tank of they chickenshit instead of prioritizing regular customers. Depending on circumstance (unmeritocratic org. cultures, nature v. nurture), typical women are very prone to taking criticism personally and/or at face-value.

The above is separate from removing artificial barriers and improving ease of active use.
