His "well regulated militia" argument makes no sense. There is either a personal right, or no right. He seems to think there is no right, so he should say "there is no individual right to arms" instead of some blather about licensing because he's too much of a coward to say ban guns.

Everything he described is just standard Democrat positions.

Well regulated in that time period and that context meant that weapons were maintained and up to current standards of warfare. Bolsheviks are using today's usage, meaning micromanaged by a malevolent bureaucracy, to disarm ideological opponents.

A Finn opining on what is 'good' for Americans based on a bad understanding of their laws' wording. But, sure, this isn't a culture war, Linus.

He's Finn? That somehow makes it grosser.

And in the letters of the founding fathers I do recall they break that down further. But I hate when they try this argument or the “you can’t define woke” argument

If the founding fathers had their way, you'd still be able to own cannons and battleships as a civilian.

The idea that they believed in anything less, or would change their mind seeing the technology developed later, is based on nothing.

They don't break it down further; they explicitly state what they meant and say so time and time again.

It's the part that drives me nuts - do any deep dive on what the various political commentary was by various thinkers of the time, and the idea that the Founding Fathers meant 'military' when they said 'militia' is absolutely insane. Several of them call out that militia meant 'everyone EXCEPT the government', and proudly touted the idea that a standing military was just short of tyranny.

Hell, some of Thomas Jefferson's commentary on the matter could literally be written as 'Sports are Gay, Gun is best, go innawoods and be awesome.'

Back when I was in college, I saw plenty of courses offering on military history and local history, but not once did I see anything regarding the founding fathers and the 2nd amendment. I wish I had, but any professor that would have tried such would have been lynched in quick order, I bet.

Hell, I would have been satisfied on a course on the Federalist Papers alone, or the political environs of the American Revolution. Instead, we get courses on Harry Potter and Second Life. Bah.

Yea, luckily I found the Federalist Papers at a library book sale recently so I look forward to reading it. But like you said the clearly explain what they mean but we get the endless “militia” argument

Language changes. (Or in Torvald's case, devolved.) 'Well regulated' just means 'well equipped' in modern parlance.

Any attempt to try and claim this means 'Only the mitliary dur hur hur' should be met with 'Tell me you've never opened a history book in your fucking life without telling me'.

Mock them ceaselessly for being idiots. Heckle them for their lack of knowledge. People like this completely abhor being considered less intelligent than they think they are. It's why their go-to insults involve declaring conservatives to some variant of 'dumb'.

he needs to look up th edefinition of militia i think, you know "militia" or "armed citizenry" who can be mustered in defence of family, neighbours or country

His daughter has been working on him for decades. What'd you expect?

Just another JP-esque clown.

Yeah. His own daughter brought him to a struggle session back in 2018, and had him kowtow to trannies in the open source community. Everything since has been sadly predictable.
