When virtually every aspect of your culture is observably and demonstrably inferior, then almost none of your values or ideas will survive the process of integration. The process will feel like erasure because none of your group identity is surviving multicultural synthesis.
Of course, this pain can be avoided if your inferior culture is artificially protected by authoritarian mandates to suppress and destroy other cultures.
